I can still see the FA bringing a disrepute charge against Terry or both. He may have been found not-guilty, but that's simply because they did not have the evidence to prove what the context he said was in. Either way, I do hope this calls an end to his England career and Roy concentrates on the younger players who should be in the team in 2 and 4 years time!
I do see a lot of similar sentiments in this article to the ones we have been hearing about recently. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18835397
Amongst other things, the article contains one of my real bugbears. Am I the only person in the land who knows what 'iconic' means? You cannot be an iconic manager unless your physical image is constantly use to represent the notion of managership.Mind you it's not so long ago that 'awful' meant something significant...
I simply can't see how the FA could justify a witch hunt against JT without doing the same to AF - indeed, why not charge every player across the country? They all indulge in foul and abusive language, and, from the details of this case, it would appear that the last thing needed is any proof whatsoever, simply supposition. In one sense, I cannot understand the wording of magistrate's decision. He initially threw out the defence's claim that there was no case to answer, presumably because he thought that the prosecution's evidence indicated that there was. Then, after hearing it, he proclaimed there to be insufficient evidence to find JT guilty - strange to say the least. Why they choose that kind of wording is a mystery to me as it does nothing but cause later problems - viz we now see the likes of Garth Crooks and Paul Elliott (neither of whom actually witnessed the incident, it has to be said) displaying the footballer's well known propensity for being unable to accept the referee's decision and calling for action from the FA. A few years ago, a teaching colleague of mine suffered from this sort of announcement after being wrongfully, and spitefully, accused of assaulting a pupil in the school at which we both taught. There was absolutely no 'evidence' presented against him other than the pupil's word and a statement from the parents to the effect that they believed their child. The court's decision was there was insufficient evidence with which to find him guilty - totally ignoring the fact that no other staff member or pupil in an open plan teaching area containing over 120 people at the time of the alleged incident witnessed anything at all. The unfortunate teacher has basically been branded in public eyes because of that, yet was totally innocent. The term 'insufficient evidence' immediately arouses public suspicion that the evidence is out there somewhere and just hasn't been found, rather than the totally opposite viewpoint that there was no evidence because the offence was never committed in the first place.
i wonder how Rio Ferdinand feels about missing the Euros now that JT has been cleared. What a waste of time and money that was. Bonkers!
I don't think they would legally get away with it, without giving Ferdinand the same punishment. Both players clearly brought the game into disrepute by highlighting the match's shortcomings over nine months. Given that Terry has been found not guilty of racism, you would have to have a watertight set of evidence to find that Terry's behavior in that match was worse than Ferdinand's. It's not within the FA's power to interpret "not guilty" as "not proven", and that's a lesson England could learn from the Scottish legal system.
we like it too, voted for it ages ago, we've been waiting for it since the beginning of last season! Hopefully we'll finally get it now! I think we've been patient enough! lol
I had thought about mentioning our banner a few days ago, but seeing as I received a telling off for asking where it was, I kept my question unasked.
Well according to Syd, Mick has been asked to change any boards banner that wants it. We'll see what happens but Syd & Mick seem quite close mates.
I originally asked back in January but my request went un-noticed. Then Mick moved house and country so i gave up, then i asked a few months later, but nothing again. So i have asked again this week. We can only hope it is done soon, but Mick has a long list of things including settling in to married life.
all i can say M Frenchie, is that Dan has been trying to get the banner put up. There is a thread on the mods board for Mick that Syd started, trying to get him to get the outstanding banners put up..it's not just us, but there are a few boards that have wanted their banners up for a while. It's in hand, and hopefully we'll get it soon
Not blaming you Dan or H, but I did get a terse PM when I last asked. Looking at it again I still think it has something rather evocative about it. Thanks ak.
it's a fabulous banner...and ...if that was a while ago M Frenchie, i can only imagine! ...still, we're working on it
