Whatever we think of him & the outcome of the case, I don't think we can say Terry has been 'protected' in this. The fact it went to court, the media storm around it, the issue with the England captaincy, the ongoing FA investigation & the reaction he's had/he'll have to face from the public I think sends out a very clear message that racial abuse has no place in the game (or anywhere else for that matter).
I hope you're right, but I think he should be banned for at least the same number of games as Suarez. At least in the Suarez case, there was a theoretical possibility that cultural nuance might mean that 'negro' has different connotations in Uruguayan and British society. I don't think there is any ambiguity whatsoever about the meaning of 'f*cking black c*nt'.
Well it was redruth and myself responsible for the drift.Although personally I think that it fits in with the general thrust of the OP which was about what a pill Terry is.On that we would all probably agree.
Yes, OK, let's at least fix on something we can all agree on. Although I don't think whether John Terry is a piece of human pondlife is really relevant to the central argument. But I'll call it a day. I've said my piece and I'll move on.
I don't really see how Terry's defence can be enough to avoid an FA ban. Even if what he says is true, surely you're still not allowed to use that kind of language in anger in the pitch. If the Ref heard him, he'd have been off.
Well his defence centred upon the claim that he was merely repeating what Ferdinand had accused him of saying. Now obviously this was because the cameras had picked him up and it could be lipread. Some legal personage thought up the repeating story to take this into account.Repeating what Ferdinand had "misheard" wouldn't in itself qualify him for the highjump.Classic muddying of the water tactics.
it makes me feel sick just talking about john terry. nobody has come out of this 'affair' well, football neither.
Ferdinand and Terry have both come out of this looking like a pair of Muppets. The whole thing was a circus from start to finish. Glad its finally over.
The CPS and in particular the clown who thought that it would be a great use of public money bringing this to court in the first place should be dragged over the coals for this! A complete waste of court time and money with only the lawyers on both sides doing very nicely out of it. This country has turned into a complete farce! Working in South London as I do, you hear black people addressing other black people with the "N" word all the time. The Pakistani's also call each other the "P" word and they are fine with it as far as I can tell. I think we all need to get a collective grip and stop blowing these things up out of all proportion! There are far more important things to be concerned about! We live in a country where all hell breaks loose over the use of insulting language yet we allow the scandal of people dying in our hospitals through not getting basic care! I'm so glad we have our priorities right!
As I understand it, the charge before the FA disciplinary hearing will be bringing the game into disrepute. I expect they will hide behind the view that the accusation of racism has been dealt with in court and that's that. In which case Suarez' ban will be deemed irrelevant. A lot of hand wringing and pontificating about making an example etc. and then .... some meaningless "penalty".
Any type of Racism should be treated with the harshest penalties.. Kids playing the game need to know that this wont be tolerated at any level.. I Would even go as far as a life ban!
Christ what did I start here? It looks like most disagree with my original post but regardign the decision does this not prove that the law is an ass? Like others above I have respect for the Germans (don't know where that all came from really but hey) and no country has the monopoly on decent people and we have our share of total tossers, Terry and Ferdinand being a mere two.
