    Oh, I see.

<laugh> ...calm down dear! It's just somebody else's opinion!

Running a forum, I would have thought you would have been well versed in tolerating those?

It always makes me laugh and shake my head when people say superluminal flight is 'impossible', just because we havn't the technology doesn't mean something is impossible. Also that there is no such thing as aliens, really, how can you have conclusive proof something doesn't exist in the universe when we havn't even properly explored the planet we live on, how stupid will you feel if they find evidence of life in our own solar system?

I never said it was impossible, I said it may be - which would be a pretty big block to colonising other star systems.

I doubt we have the intelligence to know the truth about our solar system and beyond. Firstly how do we measure our intelligence. Only by comparison to every other living creature in the Earth food chain. We have to eat, drink, piss and **** to survive, that in itself makes us not more dissimilar to maggots harbouring on a piece of rotting food, certainly not the make up of a species capable of conquering the unknown. We are a weak species rarely capable of living past a 100 years of age and susceptible to every disease and those in harbour. We struggle to even conquer the humane issues on own planet through our weaknesses so we certainly have little chance of finding whatever we are looking for out there. On the exploration side the American government may know more than they will ever reveal, simply because knowledge makes you more powerful and superior than another or alternatively may even demonstrate further our incapabilities, which would be like admitting defeat to the entire human race. We will keep exploring for thousands (not millions) of years until we have exhausted the resources within our planet to support human life. Which then means we need to find another planet to continue that exploration and the existence of the human race and the support that requires. Unless of course the universe just decides to implode and we all were just no much more than a mere particle in some atomic/nuclear reaction. Compound that scenario with every other belief and in truth we will never know and if there was such a thing as intelligent alien life capable of travelling the universe, then they would take one look at us and think wtf and obliterate our planet in the same way we find cures for diseases or put pesticides down. So with untold possibilities and whether you believe in god or even believe that aliens walk amongst us in our shadows, the closest a human will have ever come to experiencing any of those scenarios is if they have taken enough of their latest morphine fix, because sadly we are nothing more than a piece of DNA that lives, breaths and dies, which certainly does not meet the requirements for deep space exploration other than through the current limitations of satellites.

I imagine they just eat one meal at birth, and then recycle that over and over till death.

Fact is, no one will ever know for sure if extraterrestrial/aliens exist, all pure conjecture for the majority of us. Most here will assume that life is of a similar context to our own, but life could be formed from gasses or molecules formed in a totally different array to what is deemed normal or even possible. Given said scenario Light travel may not be impossible, just improbable to our limited view of the universe.
