HomeFeaturesQPR Keen to Sign £8m Tottenham Striker Jermain Defoe by The Newshound July 14th, 2012 Comments0 Loftus Road boss looks to bring in yet another quality signing. Jermain Defoe is available for transfer and is looking for a new club despite being Tottenhamâs only recognised striker. New Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas does not believe the 29-year-old fits in to his preferred system and is planning a complete overhaul of his forward options in the summer transfer window. QPR and Reading are among the clubs to have expressed an interest in Defoe, who is keen for regular first-team football after growing frustrated at being forced to play second fiddle to Emmanuel Adebayor last season. Tottenham value the England international at £8 million (â¬10m) and plan to reinvest the money as they seek to sign three new strikers before the start of the new campaign. Spurs are yet to receive a formal approach for Defoe but are aware of interest from Premier League clubs and are ready to open negotiations, with QPR boss Mark Hughes particularly keen on adding firepower to his squad. SOURCE: Goal.com Mark Hughes continues to receive the backing of QPR chairman Tony Fernandes and the Loftus Road boss is now looking to bring in yet more talent this summer. The West London side have already brought in Ji-Sung Park, Robert Green, Andy Johnson, Ryan Nelsen and Samba Diakate and Jermain Defoe may well be tempted by a move from White Hart Lane to join the ever improving Super Hoops squad. QPR could well do with new attacking options, which isnât to say that Hughes doesnât have a wealth of forwards to call upon, just that those that he has have not proved all that successful. Strikers already at the club include Jay Bothroyd, DJ Campbell, Djibril Cisse, Heidar Helguson, Jamie Mackie, Tommy Smith and Bobby Zamora but of those perhaps only Cisse, Zamora and Mackie have a future at the club. Add to that the aforementioned Johnson and itâs clear that Mark Hughes must be planning on offloading two or three of those already in his squad. Jermain Defoe is a proven Premier League finisher but last term spent much of the season on the bench as Emmanuel Adebayor played up front on his own and now that the Togo international has been signed on a permanent basis it seems likely that the England international would be considering his future.
'QPR and Reading are among the clubs to have expressed an interest in Defoe' No quotes, no date it context. Guess work to fill papers I'd say.
This won't happen. The thought of TF spending £8m on yet another striker is ridiculous. The position is the lowest priority at the moment. £2m maybe.
No truth...ahh.......done deal...........ITK...............Thursday.......................F**kin MODS.
For how many months? He is not needed. He would play in the same position as our best player in Cisse. Why get them both when only 1 can play when we have a very mediocre defence. Just checkes, turns 30 2 months into the season.
You tar both Cerny and myself with the same brush on the matter of Defoe because regardless of reports I was told directly by a source I trust that at that moment it was being discussed that Defoe come to QPR on a loan deal as he wanted to get to the euros. If we want him I have feeling that he will come this time if thats what MH wants but it won't be for 8m. Spurs outside the top 8 by xmas? ... what a knob AVB is ... he is exactly what is wrong with football management ... a ****ing arrogant squatting theorist ... defoe should run to us however the little scamp may want to pay every game. I would pick Cisse every time
How ca AVB want 8 million for defoe yet dofoe cant start ahead of EA . A player they are buying for 5 million..... Something just doesnt add up here...
£8m is the typical Levy valuation - pick a number and double it for the 'value' of having played for Spuds.
dont want him thanks, but a top CB would be nice and 8m should get us someone decent !! Have enough players that can score goals...not many that can stop them..
don't need another striker, need to get rid of some though.. Defoe is quality but his signed AJ already.
