Yes. I hate Chelsea, but I think A) the fact this even went to trial has highlighted our society's hatred of free speech, judging by the government, civilian and media response, B) that Terry clearly wasn't being racially abusive, so it would be wrong to violently steal his money (i.e. 'fine' him), and C) even if Terry were racially abusive, this should be dealt with by himself, Ferdinand and the footballing authorities like men rather than ratting out to the government in tears. Sepp Blatter was right. On-pitch abuse should be dealt with on the pitch. Oh, and I'd also like to take this opportunity to extensively at the claim this is English football's "darkest hour". Ridiculous and actually quite an offensive thing to say since it belittles real tragedies that have truly done damage to the beautiful game in this country.
Spurs fans are above any hint of racism eh ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZPRBtfgV94 His dad washes elephants and him mum is a whore ? Now hes you best player , har de har .
A little off topic question for you HIAG, since I haven't spoken to you since before the appointment of your beloved AVB - what are your thoughts on his appointment months after publicly stating your hatred for the man on our board?
Well, if you can be bothered to read my numerous posts on that very subject, on other threads, you'd know exactly what my thoughts are. To summarise... I didn't want him at the club, as I believe that we are taking a huge risk, given his abject failure at CFC. I felt as though he was, at crucial times during last season, tactically inept, and simply did not know enough about the EPL or his own players to be able to nullify the threat posed by even average teams. I remain skeptical. However, I cannot fault what he has done and said since arriving at the club. The four players we have signed so far are exactly the players that we need (although I suspect that he cannot take any credit for our signing Adebayor, as it was already likely that we'd be buying him, anyway). I am encouraged by the way that our players have reacted to his arrival, since there was a real risk that there would be a backlash or mutiny, given the way that the likes of John "write my name in fire" Terry, Lampo, and Drogba treated him. Yet our players seem genuinely excited by his arrival, and this is amply demonstrated by Bale signing a new contract - something that was a certainty, before AVB's arrival. My conclusion, as I have stated many times, is that, now he's here, I have to give the bloke a chance. We are not CFC, and our squad will probably suit AVB's style of management far better. Neither does he have the intense pressure that he had at CFC, although that is not to say that our ambitions are any less tempered than those of CFC. What he does have is the chance to prove that his failure at CFC was down to your mad Russian owner and the old-guard stalwarts who effectively run your club. If he manages to keep us in the top 4, I'll be the first to applaud him. In the meantime, he is now Spurs manager, and I am not going to snipe at him or remain bitter. Let the man have a chance. Changing the subject, who do you think your new manager is going to be, come the New Year, when RDM realises that "being mates with Terry and Lampo" isn't going to save his sorry ass when things start to go wrong? You must be really worried Drogs?
Well I hadn't bothered to read your post, I wouldn't have asked otherwise HIAG! I think he's going to royally screw you over personally, his personality and man management methods won't change. At first I did think maybe the 'bigger names' at our club were the problem but since then Carl Magnay (former youth player) had announced what a bell end AVB was and that he felt for all the Spurs players. The treatment of Anelka and Alex was so petulant it's unreal, as was the total isolation of players who he quite simply did not like. But who knows, maybe he'll use his time at Chelsea as a learning curve but I don't think so. As for Robbie, I think he'll be seeing out his two year contract. What have I got to be worried about? He can't be worse than the shambles AVB left us in.
I concur with Spurf, it is ridiculous that something like this makes it to the court room. To say that the three words spoken by John Terry were racist, is akin to saying it is sexist to call a female a "horrible woman", or ageist to call someone a "silly little boy". Just because an insulting word is adjacent to a word describing Ferdinand's race, it does not make the remark racist.
What if he proves you wrong, and he's a success with us? Will you concur with the rest of us that your mad-dog Russian oligarch is the true villain of the peace at your club?
If he brings success to your club then I for one will take my hat of to him and say well done. However, Roman was right to sack him as he was clueless and we were going downhill fast. Robbie will be fine for us but I doubt the same will apply to AVB. We will see.
I would agree with most of your comment, but there's a suggestion here that in a civilised society, wealth somehow exempts one from the basic duty of care towards others. Wealthy racist verbal abuse on the field of play is not racism ?., So is it really just banter ?. Your suggestion, is not entirely accurate in that primeval racist tendancies are not limited to wealth or even the lack of. Some of the most wealthiest people on earth are among the most racist. Wealth should not be a 'get out of jail free card' either,. yet that card was on prominent display in this case, for all to see and it was played at the outset. The defence lawyers had not seen the inside of a Magistrate Court for many a year, I bet. The facts are, Terry (the then England captain) clearly uttered a 'racist' slur at a fellow professional footballer. He then stood up to tell the beak that he was only repeating what he thought somebody esle had said and it was not ment as an insult. My question is, how can you utter words like that, under any circumstance (to someone other then your wife), and it not be deemed as an insult. Also, what happened to setting an good example. What message was Mister Rich-man Terry sending out to the impressionable clowns and half clones in the crowd that day. Can civilisation be measured in terms of racism.
May I congratulate you for the honest and restrained response to Drogs 'bait'. I would have given you +rep but, apparently I have to spread it around to others, ( you was my last recipient !)
In the real world, I go down to the local park and start calling out for my Black Labrador, I get ordered out of the park and arrested.Trying to put some humour into it I say if Chris Rock can use the word at the MOBO awards then what is the problem, plus Guy Gibson of Dambusters fame was a hero and is not getting the same treatment as me. JT's case takes up most of the week and let us be fair if he had said F*****g C**t and had not used the word black nobody would have cared. I get half an hour and receive a tongue lashing and a fine. I now call the dog Ginger same letters only offending factor 50 folks.
Well if you feel bad about offending people with hair of a 'certain' colour - and want to re establish the link to your dog's original name - try calling it Reggin ( look it up )
I take your point, but it is not mine. To clarify; I pointed out the wealth of the players to show that this was an argument between equals. Ferdinand was not an innocent party, it appears that he started the 'abuse'. Wealth is at the heart of racism, the deprivation of freedom as in slavery was to produce wealth for the oppressors. the lack of wealth in others is blamed on outsiders and produces racism. Can civilisation be measured in terms of racism. Yes I think it can, without cooperation there is no civilisation.
"Football is on trial and will pay a heavy price in the fallout of the Terry trial, according to Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor." (Source: Daily Mail) See! What did I tell you Chavs? I was right, wasn't I? PS: Thank you, AlwaysRight Ignore Drogs. He's on his period.
Perhaps, Drogs. However, I was right, wasn't I? Terry (and CFC) has dragged English football into the gutter.
