http://popularstand.wordpress.com/2...o-follow-your-club/comment-page-1/#comment-43 Well worth a read imo , I've posted this on the dark side ,I'll probably be denouced as the devil incarnate now .
A great read, at the end of the day football is about the people watching it as well as the ones on the pitch, neither can exist without each other. As for Cardiff, well they have sold their history to someone who who is not a fan, never heard of them until Ridsdale sold them the club, and are not likely to get promoted even with the so called investment, just another experiment with the fans stuck with less than upfront people in charge.
Superb read and very touching considering that Doncaster is a team we have shared great games/times with. There seems to be an attitude change in football since the prem league got into the big money, im not sure if its just the fans or the fact that so many "buisness" men have sussed out a way of making easy money on false promise, but football clubs up and down the country dont talk about being a "good well run club" they all talk about the "five year plan to get prem football" lets be honest here,Swansea is unique in the fact we have local people and fans in control and they guard the club and treat it like it was one of their own children, we are the model to follow but like most things in life these days, its a must have right now attitude that is tending to distort and destroy football quietly. Swansea has had massive credit for the football produced but IMO have not had enough credit for the way they have been run for the last 9yrs, the media can hold up Swansea city as an example of how to do things, they could easily laud us for the sustainable model our club is as much as our football but there is a reason they dont do this. Money makes the world go round!! SKY dont want the likes of Swansea and Blackpool to come to the premier league and not throw around the riches they have been paid, its bad for buisness!! Both clubs played a brand of football that overcome the "must spend big" attitude and gained respect for doing it,but to keep eating at the top table they have to spend cash and buy into the greed! 1 season of prem football= £10 price increase the following season!! and we are a club that is trying to do things the right way!! deep down its all about creating hype, throwing around big money, creating news paper stories, scandal and real life theatre. villians and heroes!! everything is designed to program the masses to think more about greed and money than it is to create anything remotely linked to what the beautiful game is all about. The more addictive and grotesque SKY and its friends can make the Theatre the less people really worry about the real issues in life. People are becoming brainwashed to think that sport is more important than life ! They are using the common mans game to program us into thinking there is nothing wrong with having obscene amounts of money, not to question obscene amounts of money and to aspire to be a person that can spend 100k on shoes and hand bags (the WAGS being the womans version of the theatre and greed principle) while all this goes on and we worry about where the next pay check is coming from the powers that be count up their takings from SKY subscriptions, bank loans, credit cards, expensive cars, sporting merc. and designer cloathing. Everything that is being bombarded at us from all media sources with football being the icing on the cake and the number one method of product placement!! The premier league represents all of this and more, do i love the fact the Swans are Premier league ? Yes and no. We are at the embrionic stage of premier football, yet we see the uglier side after just 12months. £45 pound for a ticket to the football? People will say if you want the best you have to be prepared to pay for the best, good players cost money etc, etc. What happens when we pay the Gyfli type player 30k a week? we end up putting others on parity so you have 6 players on 30k a week!! Its a never ending rise in spending that NO club can ever match organically!! spend or lose? you may spend and still lose though!! Thats what i hate about us being in the prem. What do i like about it? Well, the fact we did it against all odds with lower league players will forever make me proud and the fact we have given our city a boost financially despite the best efforts of the cardiff welsh assembly to wipe Swansea off the Welsh map. The football has been special but always fraught with anguish, ive not enjoyed it in the same way as other leagues purely because every single point is so valuable to ensure we stay on the road to financial suicide !! And thats the sick part of it, im preying we win and stay up so we can destroy the ethos of our club and football in general, thats how clever the media brainwashing is!! Sometimes, i do wish for simpler times but without aspiration where do you go ??
I think Norway has answered your question far better than I ever could. The PL to some is the be all and end all of football and cannot see it's faults and ability to alienate the very supporters who football was initially meant to represent .As long as enough people are grounded enough to recognise which way football is going then there is a chance that it won't become an all consuming monster (some may say that it's too late ) As Norway pointed out a £10 rise on last years ticket price is a substantial increase and It should be asked what price is loyalty.
i for one would refuse to buy a ticket with that sort of increase, if more refused someone may listen
