I'll never forget Joe playing against Modric first time out last season , Modric was pretty frustrated by the final whistle . The story was more about Allen having a great game than Modric having a bad one though . Modric's awesome in general & is worth big money

Have to agree with you, he is a good player but I still believe no single player is worth this kind of money. How quickly can a team recover such a fee and the wages paid on top (£100,000 + per week I would presume)? In many cases I would guess it's a miracle that they break even.

Crazy money for a talented player who's pretty inconsistent imo. This sort of nonsense will continue until one of the big boys in the Prem, Serie A or La Liga goes under, and I do see it coming. Look at Rangers.

I think Modric will be very well suited to the Spanish league so I can see why Real are willing to pay such a massive amount of money. But just think, Manu payed 32m for berba <doh> I know who I'd rather have in my team!

Where the hell did you get £25m from?! It was around the £16m mark.

Those figures makes the £10 million valuation of Joe Allen plain laughable. Add the fact that Huddersfield (First Division) are struggling to hang on to Jordan Rhodes, entirely untried at PL level, with clubs beating their door down to sign him for circa £8 million, it really doesn't add up.

For me, I wouldn't even begin talking unless £12/15 million was on the table. We would need that to replace him.

For me , 10 million would do the job . Might never get this opportunity to cash in again . Chances are he won't do so well at Liverpool . We'll get him back for cheap when it hits him that he should have stayed within the confines of " The Swans " team play

We would be the selling club so would set the terms if Joe wanted to go, the buying club would have to agree those terms. I don't think the club will be listening to anything below £15m for one of our star players, Jenkins has said previously that never again will players we want to keep will go cheaply.

Obviously we don't need the money, and we are looking to bring players in not to offload integral players to the highest bidders

A 10% better player is worth a 100% more money in football ...... Buy low , sell high .... it's a business more than a sport at the top level , teams that believe it's a sport more than a business are generally the ones deep in debt . Allen has peeked in value IMO , a month into the season he may be worth half that . Cardiff had a few players they could have sold for millions a few seasons back , waited & ended up getting peanuts for them.

I see what you say, Breezy but I still reckon Joe is worth a lot more than £10 million when you look at some of the other deals being done. His CV is improving all the time. He is an important midfielder for a decent Premier League club; an international with all the experience that that implies and, although a tad "Mickey Mouseish", an Olympian.

He is a young man with years ahead of him in the game but his main value is to us. We would need to replace him, not cheap, and then school the new guy in our way of playing which is unique in the British game. He is worth keeping unless we get a really big fee to make it worth our while.

Ivor, i am with you on this, Allen is worth every penny of 15 million. Henderson was 18 ish. was not a full internetional, ok he is now. Joey allen destroyed Henderson, Shellvey when they came to the liberty. i dont think Henderson would get near our side.

I dont get why we under value our players. Burnley sell their 21 year old, rodriguez for 8 million. Untried and untested at this level. Joey has mixed it with the best in this league. The only time i saw him struggle this year was away at everton against Fellaini.

At this point, I think that we don't entertain any offers for Allen, not unless Allen has some override in his contract or the player submits a transfer request. Replacing him, where he is now and where he is likely to be a season or two from now, is going to be mission impossible. He's far too valuable on the field than any money any other could would conceivably offer us. As somebody else has already said, not only would we have to replace him but we'd have to break somebody into our system.

Somebody writing on the BBC site assessing the Team GB squad referred to Allen as the British Iniesta. If you want to take that comparison in any way seriously then what price is Allen and who would we really replace him with.
