Faborini, Faborinio, Boris Fabulous, To the theme of Barry manilows Lola: he came from Roma, he was a showman......
If he's good can we call him the Caesar? Or perhaps we could name him after the Lupercalia, the traditional Roman festival of fertility. EDIT: He'll definitely sell more merch to the ladies than Kuyt ever did.
So, shall we get down to business then? What's this guy like, what setup does he play best in? Can he be put on the wing or as a second striker or does he play up front alone like Torres used to? With his celebrations (the hand biting thing) here's what he has to say: 'I've been planning that celebration for a long time,'' 'In Italy it means you've got the knife between your teeth. 'When you want to achieve something so badly that you are angry to reach your goals, you put the knife between your teeth. 'That's what I was trying to show by putting the side of my hand in my mouth.''
Probably best up top, where he played for Swansea (I believe). But he can play on the right of the attack, where it seems he played for Roma. Really good goals per game ratio - around 0.40 per game, in the same league as Ibra, Eto and so on. 9 goals in 24 last season although half his appearances were as a sub - impressive. Scored a lovely goal against Inter; twisted into the box and scored with a clinical finish. Hit a great free kick against Norwich. 2 left footed and 7 right footed goals in Serie A last season.
Surely a song to the Cornetto theme would be appropriate... Just one more goal... Give it to meeeeeeee.... He's from Italia... Fabio Boriniiiiii...
Ticks all the boxes then it seems, but my worry is why did the chavs let him go? Is there some hidden issue? And why are Roma not all to bothered about letting him go?
Didn't Chelsea offer him a new contract but he didn't think he'd be able to force Drogba out of the first team so opted to move on? Heard that on the radio this week but not sure how accurate it is.
Chelsea didn't let him go - he left Chelsea. Roma have paid a fair bit for him over the past two seasons, but there's not much money in Italian football right now (I'm not sure about Roma in particular) and Italian clubs are notorious for turning a profit anyway. Roma initially paid for a season loan from Parma for around 1.5-2M euros, and bought his rights in two pieces for 5M approx apiece. They'll make their money back or a slight profit depending on if he goes for between £8-12M (currency difference remember).
Either way, Chelsea's system isn't exactly youth friendly. They can't wait for young players to develop and opt to buy proven quality instead. AVB played Mceachran and a few other youngsters in his project but wasn't given the time to develop it. Now Roman is buying a load of players which now means that any youth players don't stand a chance. Whether Borini wanted to leave or not. Leaving is probably the best thing he could have done, he has got some good experience at Swansea and now in the Serie A. He wouldn't have been called up to the Italy squad had he stayed at Chelsea.
Don't know that much about him; read a good article when we were first linked to him and it seems that he can play across the front 3, uses space well, has pace and plays the ball to feel; not so good at delivering crosses.....read what you like into that! The same article had some clips of his goals and he looked like he is a pretty clever player; although I reckon i could compile a 2 minute DVD over my last 20 years of football that make me look awesome!
I think his arrival is more likely to keep Carroll at the club. Borini is best utilised as RWF, Suarez is brilliant in the same role on the left, both like to have plenty of ball, get involed and make things happen. Carroll can lead the line, link up play and carry out defensive duties. Yes he will need to improve his touch and passing, but I think he will do that under Rodgers. The only way I can see Carroll going is if Sturridge came in to lead the line. The players you have in depth (Bellamy, Maxi, Downing) wouldnt be as exciting in attack as Suarez and Borini coming off the flanks. I think you will see a 4-3-3, with Lucas (when fit), Gerrard, and either Henderson (depending on pre season) or Aquilani (if he can prove he wants to be at Anfiield), with Adams, Spearing and Shelvey providing cover.
