    READ ME FIRST!

Bit of a random article here lads but does anyone else remember the £9m bid we had rejected (supposedly) for Turan (wiki page) before Euro 2008?

Well, looks as if he's off to Atletico for £11m, which in todays market is a pittance imo.

He would be an awesome addition to our squad.

But anyway, I was reading the article about Turan and for whatever reason I started thinking about another great young winger in Royston Drenthe (wiki), then, naturally, some formation porn popped into my nut:

    -------------Tiote--Barton-------------

    Turan----------Ben Arfa--------Drenthe

Drenthe is in a similar postion at Madrid that Ben Arfa was in at Marseille, basically the club don't want him and he's out on loan. He's exactly the type of player the club should be going for in terms of age and ability and would cost no more than £8-10m.

This midfield could rip anyone apart on their day. Also, all of them except Barton are only 24 which is pretty cool too.

So, any interest on Drenthe or Turan or think we'd be better off leaving?

We were linked with Turan a few years back, wouldn't want him now to be honest. Drenthe would be good, can't buy a game at Real. Would prefer Gervinho to Turan.

Seen bits and pieces of Drenthe for Madrid and he's ****. He was in the same Dutch U21 side that did so well a few years back with Huntelaar, Babel etc. They were all massively hyped and sealed high profile transfers before completely flopping.

I wouldn't want to pay 8-10m for Drenthe when he's not wanted by Real, and before this loan he hadn't played much in a while. He'd be a good signing but that price is maybe a little steep. As for Turan, he doesn't seem to have really fulfilled his potential yet although would probably still be a decent signing.

No...the thing with all this formation porn is that it never includes Nolan...pardew may be dropping him back into a more cm role, but that will be as far as he drops him!

We need to keep Nolan in there, he's our captain and a very influential player. Also, with some of the players being suggested we could create more chances for him to score.

Aye, is he not painfully one footed or am I thinking of someone else, haven't paid much attention to him after he scored that screamer for turkey and his price tag doubled!

    To be honest

    ------Tiote--Barton------
    Gervinho--Nolan--Ben Arfa

    Would be a fantastic midfield

I have a question (assume we sign Gervinho for the purposes of answering it). Consider that Nolan will not be dropped, Barton and Tiote will play as well, Ben Arfa has been told he will play a central "number 10" role, Gervinho will play, but not as a lone striker, so more likely an advanced winger. How do you fit them all in?

All I can think of is

    --------Nolan----Tiote
    Barton-----Ben Arfa-----Gervinho
    ----------NewStriker

Seen him play once as a winger, but I think he's similar to Ferguson in the way that he can play either.
