Close behind the news of increased money from TV deals with Sky and BT, Barclays have agreed to pay almost 50% more to remian Premier League sponsors - http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/7892203/ Recssion, what recession ... so long as your in the PL in 2013/14.
This season the difference between each position in the league was worth about £800k, so from 2013 it should be about £1.2m. Assuming we stayed around 8th/9th position the the combined TV and prize money we get, should increase by £14 to £16m (the combined total for 2010/11 - which was the last year published - was £43m)
I wonder if the big clubs negotiated this as their way of getting out of the Financial Fair Play implications of the last few years of ultra-spending. If so, I suspect we won't see wages and fees massively spiral in response, just staying at their current level while the Manchester City's of the world try to get their balance sheets to tally up to FFP requirements.
An update - For season 2011/12 the Club receive a combined total just over £50m (including £3m for Euro games)
