Just had an interesting watch on Sky News.

StubHub have signed an agreement with SAFC to allow season ticket holders who can't attend any of the games, to auction off their match ticket via StubHub.

    http://www.stubhub.com/sunderland-afc-tickets/

There will apparantly be a facility at the Stadium ticket office for winning bidders to collect a special match ticket that replaces the need to use the sellers season card.

Sounds like a great scheme to fill those random empty seats, possibly allowing a batgain price ticket, whilst refunding some of the season ticket value to the seller's misfortune at missing out on seeing the Lads play.

She said it works very well in the States, and I will keep an eye out for the random games I can attend from Scotland. Hopefully it won't detract from match day sales too much !! But it has the clubs blessing so ............ why not ??

Brilliant idea! As someone who sadly now cannot afford a season ticket, I'd like to have a go on this.

I love this idea, as I only made 4 games last season.

I always offered my card around, but there were FIVE games when the seat was empty.

I'll be all over this, and think it's a cracking idea (although I expect to make more like 12 games now that I'm on my feet here)

I've used StubHub here in the States many times, for multiple different sporting events, and it has always worked smoothly and as promised.

But, in the States, the tickets usually sell for over face value. That's because people are primarily using their service when an event is sold out. It's up to the ticket owner to set the price, so it'll be interesting to see how it works out.

Lots of greedy bastards may try and make a quick buck tho.

Thing is though Wrath, when was the last time you couldn't get a ticket on a match day?? You'ld be pretty silly to pay more than the cost price unless it was a full house against the scum up North ??

Agree with you both...was just relaying my experience. In the end, no one here uses StuHub when tickets are available at the box office, unless, they want a premium seat and are willing to pay a premium price for the seat. That's when the gouging happens.

All in all a great service to have, and as I said, I've used it many times without a single hiccup.

MonsMush, if you only made £15 quid for the 8 matches you will miss thats £120 quid in the bank towards next years card?

Maybe this will encourage more season card sales, if people that could only attend Half of the games might be able to retrieve some of the costs?

The only game not available to sell via StubHub is the Newcastle derby game 'for security reasons' (which is understandable I suppose)

I'll put mine on for a tenner mate, I'd like the seat to be filled, as I said, most games I missed one of my mates, or one of their mates had it, which I'm cool with, but few games it's unoccupied I'd rather sell it for the minimum price than the seat be empty!

If I do sign up for it, I'll put my username on here, so you'll all know where to look if it's not in use.

The Club saying season ticket sales at all time high, are some of these 'ghost sales' where every week on Stubhub that seat will be available at reduced price. I know Ellis is desperate to fill the ground and this is a way to offer 'cheap' tickets. No one would ever know, gates would be higher etc. but if word did get out, say via a whistle blower ;) ST holders would be sure pissed off.

Lets see the numbers and price on stubhub once the season gets underway.

Edit: Large ST sales encourages sponsorship so come on ST holders, don't be too pissed off it REALLY benefits the club - Haway the Lads

Barcelona already operate a system by which if you can not get to a game they will sell your ticket for you for free at the going rate

Doesn't piss me off at all mate, I think it's a great idea.

I'll never give up my season card, I love the fact I've had it continuously since 1988, and I have no objection to an extra body in my seat (and it really ****ing is my seat, I've had it since the portakabin to choose your seat when the SOL was being built!) being filled by another person when I ain't there.

They should introduce a profiling segment though, so I don't have one of them whinging ****ers who goes twice a season and complains for 90 minutes ruining my seats good karma, haha.

And does the ST holder recoup the takings ????? Whichever way, if it encourages higher attendances at every game, I'm all for it,....... and I am certainly looking forward to the new layout pushing the away fans up high. Got fed up of that vast gulf of empty seats behing the goal.
