Mentioned it to my dad last night an he says the Germans who live here have changed in the last year.. His analysis of the situation (based on talking to one couple) is that they see themselves as the saviours of Europe. Due to german money bein the prevailing factor in saving the euro.. But as he pointed out the Germans have far more to lose than we do in saving the euro.. Were doing it to protect our banks though if it ficks up the banks will recover as they are money machines in all senses of the phrase.. But the Germans are producers of stuff.. They export a lot of ****.. Eg mercedes.. If the euro fails they revert back to the deuchmark because of their economy everyone will pile into their currency and therefore bump up it's value massively.. Therefore making everything they export triple in value and everything they import become cheaper by the same margin.. Therefore ****ing their economy.. The euro makes it possible for them to sell their stuff cheaply across Europe.. Whatever happens to Greece Spain, Italy France the Germans have to do it.. All this posturing they do is merely making the ****s feel more superior as without helping them all they do is put themselves in a worse state than the countries that have to help to keep them prosperous.. Bunch of ****s all them..

As to Murray I agree .. Though I do agree with foo's hatred of stuff.. Makes me laugh.

Noooooo... I'm happy for a midway point between a dead board and 1000 new threads a day. It's just the off season, once the matches start up again we'll have a fair number of things to discuss...

In fact, it's a good thing our board is dead. Look at the other clubs; new managers, their best players leaving, not signing any quality players to boost their terrible squad.

99 problems but our club aint one. :emoticon-0169-dance

EDIT: Do you guys have any domesticated animals that you want to loan out to generate some income? Rumour has it some clubs are trying to loan out donkeys, of all things. <yikes>

Yeah, not too bad. Still need one more, a top class cm. This is assuming we get Baines so two with him. I did want a striker but so long as Fergie gives him a fair go then I'd just as soon keep Berbatov. Ferguson treated him badly last season. Needlessly. Not sure who the CM would be mind.

I still think Fergie is looking for a big name central midfielder - kind of as a signal of intent.I rekon UNited have already indicated their intention with this by trying to get Hazard.

Like Ruff says a left back, possibly one who is willing to play as cover for Evra for another year (which I'm not sure Baines would be willing to do that ) and a quality proven central midfielder.

On another point, if we were to get Baines it would be quality just because we would be a threat from free kicks around the box again - which is something we haven't been since Ronaldo left <ok>

EDIT : I see SAF was talking about making Powell a central midfielder ? I hope this doesn't mean that were not in the market for a new CM ?

Fergie has said one, maybe two, more signings so I am now assuming it'll be one. That one will be Baines. He's a very good full back and will become first choice very quickly. You're quite right about his goal threat and free kick ability, reminds me of Irwin in that respect. As for CM, it'll be fairly ridiculous if we don't get one but I've come to expect nothing less. I think his 'perhaps two' is a forlorn hope of getting van Persie and I just can't see it.

Morning.. Currently sat poolside.. Considering a g&t

Isn't kagawa a attacking mid? I can't see us buying another, let's be fair with such young legs as scholes and giggs we should be fine eh?

I'd like to see us get baines as agreed he reminds me of irwin too.. Van Persie would be great but can't see it happening, if he leaves it's because of money and we won't compete with city.

I don't think we need an attacking midfielder now anyway, we've signed Kagawa and Powell to cover that. Say we play fantasy football and get van Persie, Rooney can also be pushed back to that position. Nah, it's a defensive one we need. We could possibly see how Vidic fares and if he is back fully fit look to push Jones forward into that position. That would be my preferred option as he's currently a man without a position in the side and he's too good for that.

I'd agree re Jones. I certainly don't want him to become the next O'Shea. The problem is that he is yet to make any postion his own - although it's still very early days.

I just think he has a look of a player at the minute that has the potential to become Jack of all trades but master of none. Could he potentially do a job in the CM for us - yeah he could but I doubt he would become the world class CM that we require although I'd love him to prove me wrong.

I wouldn't mind us having a look at someone like Diarra - I know he has been around the house but I've always been impressed when I've seen him play.

On this basis, I give you my preferred starting line up for next season with a list of substitutes (some of whom we may or may not get)

Anyone who doesn't usually post on the thread feel free to give your options and opinions, the season is coming closer

    GK - De Gea
RB - Smalling CH - Vidic CH - Evans LB- Baines

CM - Carrick CM - Jones
    CM - Kagawa

    RW/Attack - Valencia LW/Attack - Nani
    CF - Rooney

    Subs -

Lindegaard, Young, Rafael, Evra, Ferdinand, Hernandez, Van Persie (!!!!), Giggs, Scholes, Berbatov, Welbeck, Cleverley, Powell.

Not too shabby a squad, with or without van Persie.

It's a good job modern football truely is a squad game with players like Rio, Scholes, Young and Hernandez on the bench.

I'd probably put Rio in ahead of Evans for the start of the season - make it his place to lose.

I'd also be put scholes in ahead of Jones although obviously Scholes can't play every game.

Leaving Welback out would also be hard for me - I think he is going to have a big year for us next season (25+ goals) so I'd probably start him ahead of Kagawa certainly whilst Kawaga gets to grips with the speed and intensity of English football.

Indeed it is. It's also a flexible squad and formation which can revert to straigh 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 with ease.

It also takes the piss right out of our sad opponents fans in claiming we're in decline and have a **** squad, in actual fact it is a very, very good squad which is superbly balanced.

You could start with Welbeck and put Rooney back in CM instead of Scholes in your formation. Or you could play them both in a straight 4-4-2. Hernandez needs to win his place back to be perfectly honest, he'd be back of the queue for me, with even Young ahead of him playing behind the striker.

I take your point on Rio but he WILL get injured and Evans plays better with a run so i'd give him first choice right off.
I definitely would not start with Scholes. The time is now to have Kagawa/Cleverly/Jones and even Rooney in CM ahead of him.

(Rooney is really only a potential CM if we do somehow end up with van Persie)

I'm getting a slight stiffy at the prospect of the first test v South Africa and The Open both kicking off tomorrow. Promises to be a fine, fine weekend of sport. Got to think of a way of getting the wife, kids and dog out of the house on Sunday.

Gutted I won't be having my traditional all day Edgbaston bender this year.

Got yourself a new dog then??

Promises to be a great test match.. Two best bowling attacks in the world.. SA edge it for me with steyn as he bowls like jimmy but quicker.. That said I think bresnan is better than morkel. An we have a better spinner ..

Is a shame you're not on a all dayer a I'd come along.

Yeah, a golden doodle! It's not actually ours yet but we're minding it for three weeks and it's sure to end up at ours. Long story. Beautiful little thing though.

Very close call the test. Can barely call it but our batsmen edge it and our spinner is far better. Our keeper is now the better as their keeper is now injured, also tying up one of their top four as new keeper. I also think our pace attack is better, Steyn might be quicker but Jimmy has the guile.
Broad is simply better than Morkel in my opinion and Onions, Finn and Bresnan have got to be the best selection of first change bowlers anywhere.

Also, I know I say this every time but Westwood for the Open. Oh yes.

Of those, Westwood and Donald very good chances, Rose and Poulter half a chance, the other three no ****ing chance.

Garcia will always have one bad day, Clarke has been pissed since last year, Rory way way too wild for rough this deep and gives up if it's wet and windy, which it will be as it's in Blackpool!
