BBC reporting the Football League have told Pompey that if they're allowed to start the season in L1 it will be on -10 points.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18816436

Doesn't say exactly why yet. I know there's a rule about not being allowed to start two consecutive seasons in administration, but I thought that meant one long administration rather than 2 seperate ones.

The relegated further is because the report says "if they are to be allowed into L1", the obvious alternative is that they won't be allowed into L1.

They'll recover quicker if they go into liquidation and start at the bottom. With their support, they could be back in the league in 5/6 years.

If having a ten point deduction and having to repay all your creditors in full wasn't difficult enough, they've currently got ten players on their books and three or four of them are expected to leave in the next couple of weeks...

You're looking at over £150k a week wagebill for 10 players aswell.

Indeed, there's no doubt that their current predicament is self inflicted.

Have you read this story. Appleton is frustrated??!! What about the creditors?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18780438

According to the story, Appleton only had 8 senior players at pre-season training on Monday, and he expects them all to leave. Then he says that he's asked all senior players to take a pay cut. Maybe that's why they're leaving <doh>

If I was a youth player at Portsmouth I'd be really ****ed off at this. Yes there are only 8 or so senior players but they have ressies and youth surely? And some of those players would have been in the academy when they were in the PL so must be half decent? At least League One standard? I'd like to think some of our youth could cut it in League One?

Bit out of order to say the least. Imagine if our situation was as bad as theirs and someone said that about our club, I reckon 99.9% of fans would be absolutely pissed off!

Pompey should start in league one with a -10pts tally. More than likely they will sink into league 2 and maybe out of the league. I feel sorry for there fans but Pompey and Rangers have to be used as clear examples of what mis-spending does.

Ive said it many times, but in my opinion any club that goes into recievership should automatically be relegated one division and if its bad enough two divisions. Forget fines, relegation is the only way to punish clubs who transgress.

Doesn't seem like long ago that they were playing AC Milan at Fratton Park, and the English football press was masturbating itself into a frenzy over Ronaldinho being there.

    They're paying the price now.

All clubs should let Pompey be a dire warning to themselves.

I agree with this. Portsmouth's situation is the fault of the owners they've had, not the fans or the players for that matter, but at the end of the day it's the supporters who are punished.
If Duffen and Bartlett had stayed on here we might be in Portsmouth's position. So if that happened would we have felt we deserved to be watching first division football or worse?

There should be a clause when an owner takes over a club that instead of point deductions they personally will be heavily fined if the club goes into administration. That would stop the profligacy that ruins football clubs instantly.

Not sure why. There's never been any bad blood between the supporters that I can remember. Maybe the mods should rename this thread Schadenfreude.

Shouldn't feel good about another football team going out of business horribly, but there is a serious amount of karma and good feeling about this! To go into admin once is understandable, alot of teams have fecked up and been there, but twice, whilst still going out signing players on silly wages is fuc*ing stupid. Ben Haim still on over 30k a week, unlucky!!!!!! See you jokers in about 10 years at best I hope.

They're lucky there was no Ku-De-Ta.

I have sympathy with the Pompey fans, it's not their fault, but as for the club and their behaviour since the last admin, they deserve everything they get.
