Seems all is not well up North, some Liverpool fans are a bit miffed that Brenden has said champions league football may be a while off and the job is an immense challange, personally i thought he spoke alot of sense but there was a definate feel of getting the excuses in early, maybe after a week of training with the players its hit home just how big the task is ! There was the usual Brenden banter about liverpool people being"special" and "fantastic" but his talk in the media seems to be getting on some fans nerves. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpools-brendan-rodgers-calms-talk-1140163 some comments from the Liverpool fans. "precisely... if you've nothing good to say, say nothing. i am a little worried he is enjoying the sound of his own voice and the attention a wee bit too much. its fine when you are talking good stuff but the minute you are talking negatively before you even have a ball to kick what the hell will you say when results go against you? will you abuse your players... who knows" " Spot On. If you havent got anything good to say, say nothing at all. To me it said we will not be competing for champions league places for another 4 years and I dont like that attitude. At the beginning of the season you always have a chance and we should be looking at that as a target. Maybe he has a bad impression of us, because two of our worst performances last season were against Swansea?" "honestly i think he's talking a little too much and saying stuff that bascially the press are taking little bits and peices out of to run thier agenda. the headline is "i'll win nothing" now. add this to the fact that carroll's reputed fee is dropping by the day as the press make up stuff... well you can see why i think he's saying too much about all sort sof things prematurely" I think Rodgers is just about to realise just how big a club Liverpool are, being photographed in a "gay" nightclub earlier in the week is just the start of the intrusion and close examination he is going to receive, it will be very intresting to say the least!! Liverpool fans dont seem to be buying into the soundbites and are probably just intrested in what he does not what he says!! My own view is that he will do well given the correct support and time Thoughts on Brenden? the blabber or the Blagger ??
To be honest I don't care, he's not our manager any more. He was just the same with us but now he's on a bigger stage so the press are more relentless, he had to contend with the evening post and real radio before, now he's got the gutter press after him
Rodgers had a cushy time of it with us. There was no pressure from the club or the media and he was able to focus on his job, which he did very well to be honest; albeit he inherited a squad of players who already were fully conversant with the style of football he wanted. But Liverpool is a totally different animal. Having been such a successful club in the past, I would guess that many of their supporters want results asap, so his stance about success somewhere down the line isn't going to sit well with them. In contrast, we at Swansea were happy with any success at all given our close call with football oblivion a few years back. Whether it is fair or not, Rodgers will be under pressure to deliver at least a top six place this season. The moment the team starts to falter from delivering that target, we will hear the anguished wails down here. Their performances will be dissected mercilessly by the likes of Hansen & Co on MOTD, Collymore and others on radio and the popular press in general. It won't be pretty, that's for sure and Rodgers won't have experienced anything like it before. Will he be able to handle it? Time will tell but I've got a sneaky feeling from his statement that he's getting his excuses in early and we might see another Watford situation in the making. Will this please me? I'm indifferent, really. I'm grateful for what he helped us accomplish but he's history and we have our own history to write now under Michael Laudrup.
No. I leave that to the likes of you and Dilligaf. Just don't know why you guys keep focusing on other teams all time.
There is a school of thought that says Liverpool always get **** on by the press, im not sure about that myself but for me its intresting to see how Brenden will do up there, i dont hold any grudges towards the guy, Liverpool was too big to turn down, but i do wonder if he is getting out of his depth too quickly. Former players and staff are always of intrest to me, and Brenden to Liverpool is going to be one hell of an intresting journey, if he does well then he will be stealing our talent next year,if he does badly then it was our players that made him better than he actually was!! Which ever way you slice it we are intwined with Brenden for the forseable future, at least thats my take on it !
Strange comment, i never post on the cardiff board. Maybe once in the last 12 months, either you have an astounding memory or your fishing ??
Norway, there's no activity on the Cardiff board that's why Cardiff fan is on here. Big mistake I think from Rodgers, negativity is not what the scousers want to hear
Ok, apologies if you don't post there but I know dilli does. But why else bring up the Cardiff forum. I suppose my point is that many on here are obsessed with Cardiff, Brendan, etc. We are having the best time in 100 years and so many on here keep bleating on about Cardiff, Brenan, etc. Why? Let it go. I get accused of being a Cardiff supporter but it's others that keep talking about them, not me.
Ivor- I tend to agree RE getting his excuses in early, his stance was quite different a few weeks back, having a week with the players has given him a closer look at whats required and reality has probably hit home, the siggy situation has IMO also undermined him, while some Liverpool fans think he was admirable for sticking to his guns about wages for siggy, others see it as a vote of no confidence and minimal contract control, im sure if rodgers was pulling the strings he would have offered siggy more than what he would have had at swansea!! to offer the same is laughable and embarrasing for Liverpool fc if you ask me.
Casual- prove people wrong by not dragging this thread away then? lets move away from all that nonsense and just concentrate on what i want to discuss on the thread ok ?
He can't Norway, the rest of us will carry in with the thread. A mate who supports Liverpool (yes he's a plastic) is not impressed with what Rodgers is saying and doesn't think he'll last a full season with that attitude
Some talk about kardiff because it's ingrained in us ,the rivalry is part of our recent history as club and as individuals either real or perceived ,which is no different than Manure / Liverpool ,Celtic /Rangers .Obsession is a word thats used a lot by kardiff fans when ever a Swans fan makes a comment on one of their sites (make something out of that if you like).I do look at what their posting and only comment when it's either derogatory against my Club or City so when one of comes on here bleating like a stuffed pig then he deserves to get the verbal both barrels. Use on your own advice if you don't agree "ignore"
It's a perfectly legitimate topic for discussion. Rodgers is still 'with us' to some degree and it's only natural to follow his progress. It's taken 3 years for us to stop following what Roberto is up to.
Im not sure if i remember Brenden being negative down here, could be wrong though. Liverpool fans were not all 100% happy to see him appointed so he has his work cut out right from the start. If he sells carroll then its because he has been told to raise funds IMO, that would explain the siggy situation to me. We all noticed how Rodgers blossomed into a media loving darling and thrived on it, strange how someting he is so good at may put the first nail in his coffin!! As one of the Liverpool fans said, if you got nothing to say dont say anything !!
Just a question if it all went wrong up there and we needed a new manager in a few years would any of you have him back?
I've worked with many Irish down the years. I've never met a bad one,but they do like to talk. It's part of their make up.
May be of a different mind in a few years, but not for me. Quite frankly as we keep growing, we will need bigger and better to keep up with us. ML has the pedigree to grow with us and us with him for some time. At some point we will plateau ... financial constraints are probably going to hit us sooner than later (right now our "cost of product" is way below the Prem's average and below our total revenue, that cost is going to creep up as our squad churns - it's got to) and then we will either have to throttle back, or gain additional revenue from monetizing our brand outside of our market, or have to produce from an academy and keep feeding into our system or selling on for revenue those that are quality but marginal to our needs. If we plateau I might have him back, if he's grown to where we are. He might have a wiser head to go with his mouth then ...... but he's going to have to expand his vocabulary beyond "terrific" and "fantastic" .... perhaps Liverpool will do that for him
"but he's going to have to expand his vocabulary beyond "terrific" and "fantastic" .... perhaps Liverpool will do that for him" Think you forgot, "Like I say!!"
