Things just got a whole lot more interesting.....

Statement from Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Scottish FA is shocked and angry at coverage in today’s newspapers following an interview given by Paul McBride QC to BBC Scotland.

Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan would like to make the following points:

    1. We note that Paul McBride does not act on behalf of or as a spokesman for Celtic FC, its manager, or anyone associated with the club.

    2. In making his unjustified and inflammatory remarks, Paul McBride appears to be acting as a self-publicist and not as a QC.

    3. Paul McBride’s wild and inaccurate statements are defamatory and appear to be malicious.

    4. The Scottish FA is now considering, with the benefit of legal advice, whether to sue just Paul McBride for damages or whether to also sue other parties.

    5. A formal complaint is being made to the Faculty of Advocates with respect to the way in which Paul McBride has allowed himself to be held out as making comments to the media in his capacity as a QC.

    6. We are aware that many observers and members of the public would appreciate clarity on the decisions made at yesterday’s meeting of the Disciplinary Committee. It would be inappropriate to comment publicly on committee decisions until the seven-day time frame for any appeal has elapsed.

Whoooo I'm sure he's ****ting himself. After all, the SFA have shown recently just how much on top of the legal game they are, haven't they? <laugh>

Bring it on I say. Let's see the faceless ****s at the SFA laid bare once and for all.

Punching way above their weight taking him on. I'm so glad that it will all be in the open and the relic that is the SFA can be hauled down, brick by brick, or should that be prick by prick.

I can't believe for a second that McBride's interview and everything he said was anything other than entirely calculated. He's showed them up for mugs before, I doubt very much whether he's currently pooing his pants at the prospect of going head-to-head again.

Let me ask you a question....what would have been a better punishment for Diouf and Boogie?

I think he'll point to previous cases of similar incidents where stiff punishment was handed out. I think it was Zaliukas of Hearts who was handed something like a six match ban for touching a referee. Also, Lennon was given a four match ban for his part in the altercation while McCoist gets none.

Seriously, the SFA are a ****ing shambles. The more you think about the things they've done and continue to do it's a surprise no one has seriously challenged them before.

I think it was the incident with McDonald lying earlier in the season that just made everyone at Celtic say "**** this, no more", hence the reason they've been at them ever since.

ST - you know my take on all this. I think Diouf and Boogs should be given a greater punishment....BUT what would be more suitable? I mean they can only ban him more for the Scottish Cup - so what 6 game ban for the Scottish Cup?

Bear in mind they already got a 1 (maybe 2) match ban and now a fine...

You're kinda missing the point. Yeah, if they had received further bans it would have been in the Scottish Cup but it's not what games they would have missed. It's about the decision taken by the SFA and why that decision was taken.

Why did a Hearts player receive a six game ban for doing basically what Bougherra did?

Why did Neil Lennon get a four match ban for an altercation with McCoist while McCoist receives nothing?

What message does it send out that a player like Bougherra can manhandle a referee and only receive a fine?

What message does it send out that Diouf can cause aggro, ignore the demands of a referee to leave the pitch, ignore the advice of a policeman and then receive nothing more than a fine?

What message does it send that a club receives 10 bookings and three red cards in one game and the SFA say nothing?

Funnily enough the ref for the Sheep-Rangers game tonight is a certain Callum Murray. Perhaps he'll decide to dish out his own brand of punishment to Rangers this evening...<whistle>
