Thanks Seahoop. For the delight of the old gits ( like me) and education of others, enjoy the below. Note how far offside the Norwich third goal is, and hang on to the end it gets back to QPR.
Me too.... It's the only qpr team where i can name the players from 1 to 12....without even thinking...
The first bit of action with Don Givens fouled on the edge of the penalty box, that wold be a straight red card now - due to denying a deliberate goal chance... Stan
If the current side can get anywhere close to being that good the next few years could be fun. Now check this out 27 mins from the Big Match, last game of that season against Leeds, make a cup of tea or something stronger and enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnf-DH0qFws
Whenever I hear the theme to The Big Match, it takes me back to sundays 30 odd years ago and the smell of my nan's roast dinners while my old man and my uncles have all gone down the boozer. Too young to catch that great QPR side in 76, but my cousins still wax lyrical about them. Always liked good, old avuncular Brian Moore as well.
Just sat and watched it. What a side they were!! Leeds were pretty tasty too. Easy to forget how good Gerry Francis and Dave Thomas were too!! If we get a side to rival that one, we will be very lucky indeed!
Really interesting to speculate on watching this mid 70s action... The 2 1 away defeat to Leeds, Frank Mclintock made a schoolboy error in trying to pass back to Phil Parkes. As i teach my defenders in kiddies football "If it doubt, kick it out...." QPR could have drawn that game 1 - 1 Also the first Norwich goal in our 3 - 2 away defeat to them, similar thing, the late Dave Clements attempting a header back to Phil Parkes in the six yard box - "If in doubt, head it out..." Drawing that game 2- 2, etc...should have been the correct result... With two points gained for these defeats, we would have been champions, and rightly so...How the whole season, can be judged on such fine margins... The maddening and beauty of football... Stan
Hate to say it mate......but that's precisely the kind of coaching we need to get away from in this country. Teach them to keep the ball and pass it! Although, you're quite right about those errors that cost us!!
My biggest memory of that match was not so much the match itself but the half hour after it, we'd all bundled onto the pitch and the celebrations were as if we'd actually won the title, 10 days later the bubble burst...
