Cardiff City sign Slovenian centre-forward Etien Velikonja

    Manager Malky Mackay has signed Velinkoja, 23, from NK Mroibor for more than 1m Euros.

    Fulham are among a number of clubs who have tracked Volikonja's progress. He is rated as one of the best talents to emerge in Slovenia for some time and was top scorer in Slovenia's top flight when he played for Gorica three years ago.

    He moved to Slovenia's top club NK Maribor and has scored 20 goals in 46 matches.




    Manager Malky Mackay confirmed today Velikonja as his third signiong of the close season today. He follows Jordon Mutch, a £2m buy from Birmingham City, and goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

    Velikonja played in both of Maribor's Uefa Europa League ties against Birmingham City last season. He is naturally left-footed.

    I'm with you CVD, out of the blue. Happy to have rumours to keep us entertained, but it's the signings that matter.

    Just need to find out who he is now. Make sure he gets a plane ticket to Switzerland not Cardiff for the weekend.

    Good news - 1 in 3 goals record - competition for Kenny. Maybe we won't go the big man route although have Rudy as Plan B.

    Just saw that he won't be at the training camp as he's still playing for Maribor in European qualifiers. He joins us on 25th July.

    Will he play alongside Miller or instead of? Personally I want to see an experienced target man as well.

    Sounds promising though!

    Looking at the video. I don't see him playing as well as Miller. He seems to take up the same sort of space on the field but is left footed.

    Looks like the net is widening, including for youngsters.
