I'm tempted to say "are you thick or something" but I'll resist the temptation. Carroll is a proven international striker. He's young and therefore has more long term potential than let's say Gomez. He is an asset and he does have a value. Just because he's not 'flavour' of month with those who call for us to buy untried foreign strikers does not diminish that. Of course he can be criticised but then so can Gerrard and Suarez. Leaving that aside, the club did pay £35 million and that figure (less 18 months depreciation) lies on our books. To therefore sell him off at a bargain price because either the journos would like it to happen or little boys playing FIFA Manager think it's a good ides is sheer stupidity in terms of financial management.
Not a rant mate...not yet but seriously are we wanting a depleted squad next year or a stronger one? Who remembers last summer when pretty much every supporter (including myself) was heaping praise on the club for acting quickly and getting players in early? Now we urge patience and "plenty of time yet"? So which is the best way to do business? Early in the window or leave until later? One other thing on the "possible" Carroll move. If we were to sell him/loan him what happens if Suarez gets injured during the Olympics? Where would that leave us? If (and as always I stress the "if") we were to allow Andy to move on shouldn't we maake sure we get in the two players we need first THEN look to move him on?
Billy, there's a big difference between this season and last. Kenny had already had half a season assessing his squad before he started buying. Rodgers hasn't even had the whole of his squad on the training ground at the same time - yet we have a tour and a Europa qualifying tie coming up in short order! I totally agree with you about the Carroll situation
Rant over. I think we all need a signing pronto, to cheer us up a bit. all this speculation is giving me a headache.
The thing is that last year KD had been with the (then) current squad and theoretically knew who he wanted to keep and who to replace so we were in a good position to act quickly. This time, the new manager has to have some time to assess what he's got so the in and outs are bound to come later in the window. Whoops. Didn't refresh so said the same as dave.
Seeing as you like to think that you're better than everyone else on this board, you shouldn't resist the temptation and should just come out and say it. Only last season, LFC fans were saying that we should ignore his transfer fee and look at him as a player and that we shouldn't judge his abilty against his transfer fee. But now, we want to justify his inclusion in the squad and deem him as a 'valuable asset' because of what we paid for him. Either way - I'm not fussed if he stays or goes. If he stays, we have a good target man/plan B. If he goes, then I won't be crying as he is not world class player. Proven England international? 7 cameo appearances for your country does not make you a proven international. Fantastic achievement for someone of his age but don't make it sound like he's the best thing since sliced bread. Edit: Furthermore, I agree it would be very silly for us to offload Carroll WITHOUT a replacement plus Borini, as it would only weaken our squad.
I totally accept that chaps and agree...but...he went for Siggy before assessing the squad and we sold Dirk before he'd even had time to find where the closest crapper to his office was. Now I am not urging us to buy for the sake of it but losing Carroll without strengthening first would be plain crazy IMO. I want us going in to next season stronger not weaker that's all
Let us not start arguing with each other. Every one is entitled to there opinion. we are fans of the same team, we take enough stick from the opposing fans. Can we not just argue with them. Calm down, calm down. Bloody Scousers.
If you believe that I "think that you're better than everyone else on this board" then that's your problem not mine. I laid out my rationlisation as to why he's a valuable asset and that goes much further than "what we paid for him.". As for his international standing, then apart from Carroll and Gomez (both playing the traditional striker role) then please tell me who was better at the Euros? I'm glad that we can agree that to lose Carroll without a replacement AND another striker would be very foolish
I agree- I don't want us to get rid of him at all. I wonder about where all this talk comes from, because true or not, it must be really unsettling for the lad himself.
Yeah - I'm the one with the problem(!) Are you referring to all players or just those in similar positions?
The question was put to Tony Evans was along the lines of: "Do Downing + Hendo have a future at the club?" His reply "Downing, definitely not. Henderson, probably not. Someone high up at club expressed to me a desire to be rid of English players" Interesting,
Dave. See the banter thread. Mt reporter made had an off-the-record chat with BR after the press conference. He said that he wanted Carroll out along with Cole and Borini and Dempsey in.
Not surprised about Downing but very much so with Henderson. I believe he is a talented youngster with good technical ability.
http://www.thepfa.com/en/TransferList the majority of players on it are out of contract or loan listed with only 3 players being ''transfer listed''
I reckon we should bid on Darren Stephenson only 19 and can play up front a position we are short on and is on the transfer list
I don't think Ben Smith said that Carroll was transfer listed (or I can't find the quote myself). But he did say that LFC are looking to move him on.
