Just went onto Reddit and this story was on my front page. Bit of a shock to see anything Saints-related on there.

FIFA statement: "FIFA monitoring issue & involved its chief investigator in England."

Now being tweeted and posted about by the top journalists it seems.

I don't. Benali has obvious reasons to deny it, what motive does Claus have to lie about it?

How much money do we think Lundekvam stands to make from this story? He didn't sell it directly to The Sun, he confessed during an interview in Norway. Surely if he was doing it purely for money, he'd have sold the story directly to a tabloid which would have paid far more for it?

Precisely. All the bookmaker contacts I know have always denied this type of scam happened on any more than a couple of occasions and even then not by actual players or people closely associated to a club. None of the firms in this country would take large bets on these types of markets. It's just paper hype!

I know I wouldn't want to argue with Franny.

I don't think he did it for free. He'll probs do another interview for a paper in the next few days aswell.

Martyn Ziegler - Chief Reporter at the Press Association:

"FIFA to investigate Claud Lundekvam's claims of spot-fixing by Southampton players."

But why did he not sell the exclusive story to The Sun? He'd have made so much more.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Even if he does go on to do interviews with tabloids (as he probably will) he could have maximised profit by going straight to the Sun for a big exclusive "scoop".

Either way it's clear Claus has gone completely off the rails since he left us. Drugs, alcohol, debts and mobsters... man's a mess.

There's is no doubt that this kind of thing has been rife in the game for years. I'm angry with Claus because he has dragged the good name of Southampton Football Club through the mud at a time when it has got its' act together, both on and off the pitch, for a few 'readies'. I bet the Don is fuming today and this will only add to the badwill between him and some prominent ex-players. It has to be kept in perspective though, none of these bets were taken to determine the result of a match and the only losers were the betting operators.

It's a shame, you'd never have thought it would be him to go off the rails...

All over Sky and BBC now that FIFA are launching an official investigation into the activities of Southampton Football Club due to Claus' claims.
