I think it makes the competition better, the fact that we are still competing at the right end of the table, and finishing above the likes of Chelsea is a thing to be immensely proud of considering the bullion they have unloaded indiscriminately in the last 10 years. Spurs competing against Chelsea and City reminds me of the stories about Gareth Bale when he was a kid, where his PE teachers would only let him use his right foot otherwise it was unfair on the other kids. Gareth was so superior to the other kids that he had to be handicapped, similarly, Spurs are handicapped through our reduced spending power. If it were a level playing field, the Chavs wouldn't stand a chance.

AVB has said that we will sell Luka at the right price and that discussions are ongoing with a number of clubs.

Apparently the right price is any other club's Financial Fair Play ceiling, then add 50% to it...

This will give the people "ITK" a few hours to decide on who Modric will be sold to.

We have the pick of

1. Real Madrid

2. Chelsea

3. Man Utd

4. Man City

5. PSG

Here is the template for any wannabe ITK to be used

"Have just spoke to my source and discussions between (insert club name) and Levy are ongoing and have been for the past week. Modric has made it clear he wants to join (insert club name) and the club aren't against him leaving, as long as we receive minimum of 35 million.

AVB has made it clear to the board that he doesn't want unsettled players at the club when the season starts and is keen for the Modric situation to be resolved so he can use funds to bring in Mountinho.

I will just go and tuck into my tin of tuna mixed with BBQ sauce and will keep you updated with any further developments.

Brad Friedel encouraging us to go for Lloris....

BRAD FRIEDEL has welcomed Tottenham’s pursuit of France keeper Hugo Lloris.

Spurs have bid £13million for Lyon ace Lloris although the French giants are seeking £16m.

Former USA star Friedel was the No1 at White Hart Lane last season but the 41-year-old he admits this campaign could be his last.

The former Aston Villa keeper said: “We will welcome any good addition to the squad.

“When I first signed here, there was no secret Tottenham would one day need a new long-term goalkeeper.

“I am 41, this could be my final season.

“I will do whatever asked of me, whether that is number one, two or three and will do it to the best of my ability.

“When you get older, it is easier to realise this is a team sport and the egos have to take a back seat if you want to be successful.”

Tottenham have splashed out on Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen and Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer.

And a permanent deal for Emmanuel Adebayor also appears on the cards after his successful loan spell from Manchester City last season.

Friedel said: “If we can do a deal for him and he can score another 20 goals, it would be a huge bonus for us.

“We are a little light in the strikers department at the moment, and that is an area they will be looking to bring people in — hopefully they can get that deal done for Manu.”

However, one man who looks to be on his way out of Tottenham is Luka Modric, who is wanted by Real Madrid.

But Friedel does not believe Spurs would sell the Croatian playmaker without having a ready-made replacement lined up.

He added: “I can’t see this club, with the ambition they have, allowing someone to go without having a replacement. We are definitely not a selling club.”

Tottenham have changed their manager this summer with Andre Villas-Boas replacing axed Harry Redknapp.

AVB has been taking pre-season training this week and Friedel has been impressed with the Portuguese.

The American added: “You can only take people on what you see, and from what I have seen he is a very ambitious manager, he is very organised and training has been very sharp.

“He has let us know he wants to come here to win things, so in the first couple of days, everything looks very good.”

An appropriately mature response from Friedel.
I wonder if he'll look to get his coaching badges this season, if he's displaced from the number 1 spot?

Or, to put it another way, he knows he won't be sold to make way - Gomes will.

The Moose on Talksport (I know!) indicated in a report today that this talk about Lloris is probably false.
He claimed that Villas-Boas said that we have four good goalkeepers at the club, including Button and virtually ruled out bringing another in.

Gomes and Cudicini both are, and there's been no word of them signing new contracts...yet they're training with the squad, and no new goalkeepers have been signed.

Anyone?
