Perhaps we are just going to adopt the Spanish way, and play with no forwards?

Both Suarez and Borini can play along the front line so I wouldn't be surprised if we do eventually see someone like Ramirez come in (who can play along the line as well).

They can all interchange etc ....

Luis Garcia, drinks sangria, wants to be back at the club, heard it here first!

****, wrong thread, damn you zingy.

I am wondering if this is all conjured up or if it is real. I will believe it when I see it.

Just reading on the other thread about Suso, he looks hell of a player, and right up Rodgers street. Would love to see him and Sterling break through.

Most of the players we are linked with are young, gifted players. Looks like we are planning for the future. This feels like a new beginning. The start of a new exciting era.

I agree mate. But that's why I'm still slightly surprised about the Dempsey links ...

well, if what I am reading is correct, he likes to play 4-2-3-1

    So we have:

    .....................................Lucas..................Gerrard........................
    .........Borini.................................Dempsey.........................Bellamy
    ....................................................Suarez.............................................

If we don't go for Dempsey then Gerrard, Shelvey, Maxi or Suarez will have to play the withdrawn role.

Suso and Sterling will have to be introduced gradually, so would be happy with Dempsey to give the younger players time to break through. Plus he scores goals, which is something we have been short on.

If we do get Dempsey and Borini, then we could still do with someone for the left side (ramirez would do the job) and someone for holding midfield (#Joe allen would be great)

That would give us loads of options. Perhaps get rid of Downing, Bellamy, Maxi?

Hopefully wee Jay and Henderson can step up too. Would keep Andy, give the lad a chance.

I'm still holding out for Ramirez but starting to look unlikely now. Can't see Gerrard and Bellamy playing 30 games this season so it's important we have quality back ups. Henderson, Shelvey, Suso etc are exciting prospects but aren't good enough to command places.

Any manager who just gets rid of a valuable club asset at a loss without ever seeing him on the training pitch is just an idiot - no matter what his philosophy is.

Somehow I don't think Rodgers is an idiot.

Maybe Rodgers can correct Adam's decision making. He does show glimpses of being a good player. 50/50 on that one.

How is Carroll a valuable asset? Just because we bought him for £35m doesn't mean he that he is immune from criticism, or that he's bigger than the club, or has a divine right to stay here for the rest of his days? If you were to describe Suarez or Gerrard as a valuable asset, then I could understand but not Carroll.

I'm one of the few that rates Adam - he did score goals and create chances when he was playing alongside Lucas. Once Lucas was injured and Gerrard returned, he really struggled.

He is a valuable asset. But only if you are prepared to play to his strengths. Would be awesome at Stoke. But maybe not for Spain? Should at least be given till January, and will be shocked if he goes now....

A good player shouldn't have to rely on someone else's hard work to be good. Not at Liverpool anyway. <ok>

I can see where you're coming from however, in which case Gerrard has been awful for the past 3 years without the likes of Alonso, Mascherano and Lucas sitting behind him.

Players like Lucas give the midfield some balance and stability which enables others to do their job. It works the other way around - you can argue that Lucas is terrible because he's not involved in the team goals as he has to rely on the attacking midfielders.

It's all about balance and players complimenting one another. The truly special players are the ones that don't need anyone to help them i.e. Suarez and Gerrard of old.

I also see where you coming from...but with Adam he plays alright at best next to Lucas. Gerrard still carries the team a bit and does a lot of work he shouldn't have to which doesn't allow him to only do what he's best at. We need class...and Adam is only capable of producing that once a match every 5/6 matches.

True. If I'm honest, I don't really want to see either Gerrard or Adam in the starting line up. Gerrard is not the same anymore and is capable of producing that magical performance but that comes once every few matches nowadays.

I would love to see a partner for Lucas who can play the Alonso role.

Well if he can't do the business, he needs to go. Would like to see a few players go, aswell as coming in. Don't need people earning money and contributing nothing. (Aqua & Cole being prime examples)

Really can't see much of a future for Downing either. 0 goals 0 assist, fail.

No one's saying he has a divine right to stay but how the hell did we manage to spend 35 mill on a player who ISN'T an asset? We certainly looked better at the back end of the season with Mandy playing and so did England in the Euros.

Whether people rate him or not aren't we supposed to be building a squad not weakening it. We have already sold Dirk and relaced him with nobody. If (and I still think its a big if) we lose Carroll too then we will need to get 3 better players in and pre season has nearly started already. Hopefully its a nothing story but if it does happen the whole summer will start to look like a bloody shambles to me.
