One bet tomorrow, get the money up for the good racing on Thursday where Ahern, will be bolting up in the July Stakes. Nass 8.00 Custom Cut 9/4 Thats why they call me Boris Fenster
Good luck with both of those Boris. I'm going to York on Saturday for a stag do so i've spent a little time tonight looking at the John Smiths Cup. Does anyone have any stats for it? The one that jumps out at me is John Louis. This one beat Troopingthecolour last time out quite easily in the end. Steve Gollings is my girlfriends uncle and I know he thinks the world of Troppingthecolour and expected him to win with a bit up his sleeve that day. In third that day was Trade Commissioner who has gone onto win twice since. The last of which was the Coral Challenge Handicap. Trade Commissioner is now rated 98 but realistically is a group horse. John Louis is still only rated 77, has been allotted 8st 1lb and has the excellent Raul Da Silva booked to ride. I have never given this race a second thought in the past so can anyone help me out with whether he's likely to get into the race?
Don't think John Louis will get in Quel. If he somehow does, he's going to have to turn the tables with Robin Hoods Bay who is 3lb better off and finished 1.5L ahead of him in the race where they both finished behind the improving Danadan. Wouldn't go near John Louis until final declarations are in.
Cheers ROTO. He's entered in a race at Newmarket on Saturday as well so will most likely race there then.
A interesting little article on ATR today... A walkover is likely in the partex-direct.co.uk Novices' Hurdle at Worcester this evening after trainers decided to boycott the race due to low prize money. The contest falls below the level set out in the Horsemen's Group tariff by £900 yet, after being warned of possible action, the course haven't altered the total. Twelve horses have been declared but a movement organised by trainer Charlie Mann, which has the backing of the likes of Nicky Henderson, David Pipe and Donald McCain, means only one horse is likely to go to post. Mann told The Times: "Twenty-two trainers, including all the top names, agreed to the boycott. I have been delighted by the response and we have all entered decent horses on the basis that they will not take part. The likelihood is that we will leave one horse in the race, so that the prize money from a walkover will be pooled to pay the fines we get. "We had planned a similar boycott at Fontwell recently but they acted to get the race concerned up to tariff, so we didn't do it. Worcester only had to put up an extra £900 to avoid this but chose not to do so." He added on Sky Sports News: "The general public probably don't think there's much of an issue because they only see the big races where the prize money is fine. We need a decent return because without owners and trainers there is no product. "Bookmakers' profits are at an all-time high yet without us they don't have a product. This could have been avoided for the sake of £900 so we hope it has a big impact. We will do it again next week if we have to, we're sticking together 100% on this. Worcester is owned by the recently amalgamated Arena and Northern Racing Group and Ian Renton, director of the new company, said: "It is disappointing that trainers have targeted such a well-meaning course which is doing all it can in the circumstances. "Since the downgrading of the levy in 2009, Worcester has suffered a 60% reduction in daily contributions. We have put virtually all our income into prize money and we aim to meet the tariffs in all races next year." Philip Hobbs, the next president of the National Trainers' Federation, said: "I'm a little uncomfortable and would rather not go to these lengths, but we needed to do something. Arena have recently had an enormous rise in their media rights income but prize money continues to fall. They can definitely do better." Them bad boy bookies making all that money and nowt been pumped back into the racing... We seem to get at least a couple of stories like this every year now...!!! I bet the bookies open a book on which horse will be the only runner to... Making more money...

Do we think Worcester will make the £900 prize money so they can all run...? Looks on paper to be a good race...
I see that the one stick put up for yesterday, only to be withdrawn, is a market mover today... Marie De Anges has come in from a first show of 9/2 and has now cut into 11/4... Might well be worth a play...
Catterick will be providing my entertainment today whilst at "work" 14:20: Jamesbo's Girl 4/6 (NAP) - Short odds, but its only got 3 weak horses to beat, stays an extra furlong which is almost a must in this bottomless ground. 14:50: Mich Slates 6/1 (NB) - Plum draw, goes on the ground, receiving tonnes of weight from the field with the claim, stays an extra furlong (you might recognise a theme developing here). 15:20: Bollin Felix 8/1 - Will love the ground. Might put a bit on a combination tricast of Bollin Felix, Kians Delight and L Frank Baum, can't see anything past those three. 15:50: Lisiere 8/1 - Blinkers tried today, drop down to minimum trip should suit, not sure about ground though, maybe a watching race 16:20: Georgebernardshaw 5/1 - Drawn Stall numero uno, will like the conditions. 16:50: Emeralds Spirit - 11/4 Good draw, likes the ground, Thirsk form will have been boosted by runner up winning well on Monday. Unlucky not to win last time out when tried to make all the running, pace should be more suited today 17:20: Roc De Prince 4/6 (NNB) - Ran well last time out, only found Biographer; a 1/5 shot, too strong. Should be too good a horse for this lot.
MARIE DES ANGES 8.40 Worcester who missed an engagement yesterday due to very heavy ground. Todays trip is probably even more suitable so that makes me more confident. HADAJ 4.10 Yarmouth is very interesting in first time blinkers.
I'm happier at this trip on this ground as well. she was 9/2 yesterday afternoon. I missed it waiting on that duff bumper. doh
Did enjoy this tweet from Dan Roan from the Terry case "Penny:"You used 'black' because it was a feature of him you chose to pick out. Like Paddy Kenny is 'fat' & other people are ugly"" Poor Paddy Kenny what did he do to deserve this abuse?!
A rare one from me for tonight chaps. Barney McGrew in the 7.20 at Kempton. This horse very dangerously handicapped, and has been running some good races of late, which may suggest some of that old sparkle has returned. Has to give weight all round here, but trip and conditions should not pose a problem, and I'd be hopeful of a big run. Best priced - 13/2.
Just a small double for me today Gallipot 3.30 Lingfield Buick Gosden are on fire and this horse appears to have enough potential to win a race like this. Finished 3rd in a decent newmarket race last time out and comes here today off the same mark. After racing very competitive maidens won by the likes of Vow and Estrela she was far from disgraced and she rates as being a major player here Tinseltown 5.10 Yarmouth Improved two stone over hurdles before returning to the flat and duly routing the opposition off a mark of only 46. Has a penalty to carry today but cannot see that being enough to stop him and i think 5/4 is cracking value to be honest as i cannot see him getting beaten at all. Nap of the month!
Just a few that i will be having a go at today... 4.00 Ling - Tallulah Mai, 3/1 8.40 Worc - Marie De Anges, 11/4 8.50 Kemp - Morning Charm, 7/4 All in a small win patent...
Would deffo agree that the 9.10 at Worcester is a very nice heat and this is confirmed by the fact that last time out 11 out of the 12 runners finished either 1st or 2nd. As the boycott is supported by such illustrious names as the forum’s favourite trainer, Mr Henderson, I’m sure that connections ‘industrial action’ will be well supported across the racing sphere. To me it is quite ludicrous that horses such as these are being asked to race for such a ‘piffling prize pot’. It shows just how low both the racing industry in this country has fallen and similar sentiments apply to ‘Broken’ Britain as a whole. I wonder though who will be the ‘lucky’ horse to get to do the ‘walk over’??? Furthermore, will the ‘winning’ connections get to keep the whole £3k winnings or will they share the loot out amongst the whole field??? Something to mull over, methinks. Let’s hope that Pippa Greene is the chosen one as those £3k will go towards Mr Henderson’s quest to be champion trainer in 2012/13.
Racing for Change was a waste of time and money. Tantamount to re-decorating and replacing the windows when the foundations are sinking and the roof is collapsing. What is needed is a proper high level review, looking at trends, profitability, short and long term projections, sustainability etc. Is anyone capable of taking a long term view these days?
