I was a Dennis Oli fan, but tell you what we can do! Keep him for a year and let us have Matt Bloomfield!
I am surprised that he is still in the football league, he works hard but he is not good enough, him and football league don't go together, he is a Blue Square South player in a way but injury does hold him back.
i think people are being unkind, a good player during our promiton from league 2 a few years back and has then struggled with injury. i think the thing that says most about the guy is after being told he had no future at the club midseason came back into the team due to injuries and gave 110% scoring a few vital goals in the process. was it not for injuries i think he could have been a better player and by no means the worst player to grace a gills shirt!!
No-one can criticsize his workrate and committment, and he has done exceedingly well to get a contract at another club. He wasn't the worse player we ever had at Gills, but theres not been many worse than him in recent years. He was lucky that Hess somehow gave him a new contract when he came to the club,so since Stimson signed him, thats about 5 years now in full time football, and good luck to him.
Dennis Oli ? Playing on the wing for most of our promotion season in 2009, did very well with his speed and would put in some decent crosses, his pace would frighten defenses. Injury problems disrupted his time with us and he never had a decent run in the side after 2009. Wins a lot of aerial balls and just needs someone to play along side him to score the goals, ball control will often let him down.
Definitely played well in the run to play offs under Stimson, but has hardly been fit since, but I wish him well and if he retains his fitness then he can have a good season as an 'impact sub' as he remains relatively quick and can be difficult to knock off the ball.
Oli is good enough to play at this level, the question has to be is he physically fit enough to be a pro footballer. He only played a a handful of games over the last two years but if by any chance he suddenly becomes capable of playing 30 or 40 games a season for another club, there are some big issues to be addressed at Priestfield.
In Dennis' defense, he was a reasonably important cog in the '08 promotion team contributing hard work and relentless pace. Glad he's gone though.
Very quick.....sometimes........scores goals.....sometimes I liked him though excellent work rate and a team player. Best as an impact winger against tired defenders ....Striker ....erm No ! Good luck to him though and I hope he does well
I think you will find he will only work hard when he is playing for a new contract. That seems to be the only time he's looked like a League footballer.
He worked hard towards the end of last season even after he knew he would be leaving! Dennis Oli is a top bloke and a decent footballer who never let anyone down!
After he came on and scored that equaliser, Hess said after the match that there was a chance that he could still play for his contract. He started playing better again until Hess made the right call in not offering him a new deal.
