Do people SERIOUSLY rate RVP that much? He's had one 'world class' season and now he thinks he's king. The previous seasons he had at Arsenal hardly set the world on fire and he turns 29 in the next few weeks.... The money spent on his transfer and wages could be invested much more wisely on someone younger and just as good. Yes he was outstanding last season, but he stood out among an average team. In either of the Manchester sides I don't think he would stand that tall, just take Netherlands in the Euros as example.

I agree. United have money and can attract almost anyone. To rule them out of the title race is absolutely absurd, as they've challenged every season for the last 20 years. They have the best manager, and he will definitely be looking to improve the team in this window. I think they'll win the league this season.

He was Arsenal's best player last season, as any gunners fan you talk to will confirm.

They haven't spent any serious money on transfers for years and they can't keep up with their neighbours in terms of the wages they can offer. They just aren't the dominant force they once were.

They haven't spend serious money because they haven't needed to. They spend £30m on Berbatov in 2008, and have reduced their debt considerably since then. They were one of the teams in the running to sign Hazard, and they are rumoured to be willing to spend big bucks on Luka Modric, Lucas Moura and Leighton Baines among others. There is plenty of evidence that they're looking to splash the cash in this window.
 
They haven't needed to? Last season they lost the title and went out of the champions league at the earliest possible opportunity. The quality of their squad has significantly declined in recent years and they're completely reliant on Rooney's goals, without which they'd have been well off the pace of their neighbours last season.

What is the evidence that they are looking to splash the cash? Of course they're going to be linked with lots of players because of their status (and the fact their squad is so weak by their standards), but the fact is they don't have a lot of money to spend. I'd be surprised if they bought more than a couple more players.

And that is why they now need to. It was common knowledge that they were in for Hazard, but he turned them down because he wanted to live in London. Some are saying Baines is a done deal, and papers today are claiming that United will spend £30m on Lucas. Other names which have been thrown around are Lewandowski, Modric, Fellaini, Ganso, James Rodriguez, Gaitan, Moutinho, Sneijder, and now the Van Persie rumour is in a bunch of papers.

Let's come back to this conversation at the end of the window. I'll bet you that they spend at least £40m on transfers this summer.
 
United don't win the league and that's it,people write them off? Wow. Yes, they are behind City financially, but I wouldn't write Fergie off just yet. I am not saying they will win the league, but to write the best British manager ever off, is crazy.

I can't stand United or Fergie, bit I hold a begrudging respect for what he has achieved.

I await with excitement his retirement and the demise of united, but it will be more than just missing out on the title before we can call it a demise.

Paper talk these players have also been linked to all the other big clubs in Europe.

It's possible they will spend £40m, they've already spent £17m on Kagawa, but they won't be attracting the Hazards or Van Persies because they can't afford their wages.

Dare I say "count the trophies"??? Don't get me wrong, Wenger is a great manager and helped change English football forever and for the better, but Fergie's achievements are incredible (in my opinion)

They also haven't really been forced to spend...when failing to win the league is an aberration and you reach the CL finals in three of four years, there isn't really any impetus to splash the cash. Now that they're facing the possibility of being second-best (or worse), it shouldn't be surprising that they'd be a bit more willing to throw cash around. Doesn't mean that their pockets are as deep as those of Chelsea or City, but I'd expect them to be fairly aggressive in this transfer window; whether they'll have the means to do it year after year remains to be seen, though.
