We'll all chill out once you've left us in peace. To quote Cromwell:"In the name of God, Go!". (Or I could be more succinct)
Apologies - this has got nothing to do with Fulham and I guess I'm posting it because I said somewhere earlier that it wouldn't take long for Laudrup to get into the transfer market. But that apart, I think Guzman is a great signing for Swansea - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2171566/Jonathan-Guzman-signs-Swansea.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Can't say I know much about de Guzman, apart from he was playing for a side who got relegated last season.
Interesting piece I saw today about Carroll being linked with us. They also threw in a piece about Dempsey being used as a swap option plus some cash. I wouldn't mind this actually. I've never had an issue with Demps going (although i would prefer him to stay, obviously) but a swap for a big number 9 is not a bad deal. Carroll is a bit hit and miss with Liverpool but I feel he'd be much more settled with us. Thing is, I would imagine his wages would be well in excess of what we would want to pay.
I see a few websites this morning are linking us with Rodallega again. I must admit I’m he wouldn’t be my number 1 choice but on a free makes sense and I hope we can get him. He isn’t the most prolific striker but is better than the strikers we have lost and at 26 is a decent long term bet.
Well, he's been an okay goalscorer for Wigan without reaching anything like 'prolific' status: 9 or 10 goals a season in his best years. If he can do that for us, that'll be okay. If it happens, it'll be a decent signing but not an exciting one, I think. I'd prefer Fletcher, but the economics of it would probably make Rodallega a better signing.
The Rodallega signing seems to have cropped up a few times since the end of last season, and yet still not signed!!! I agree with others, not a prolific scorer, and not sure he scores that many against the top clubs. If I was going to give lots of money to Wolves I'd go for Jarvis, one of the few wingers in the Premier who can cross a good ball on the run, Fletcher is not for me, a very moody player who's performance is up and down, not worth the money.
I read somewhere yesterday that we have been linked with a £14m move for both Jarvis and Fletcher! Jarvis I would take for around £7m but I think we could spend £10m better elsewhere than on Fletcher. Can't really say I'm a fan of his.
Were we not going to sign him in January as a swap for AJ? Maybe Jol can get more out of him than Martinez did.
I seem to be at odds with many of you - I have a much higher opinion of Fletcher than I do of Jarvis. The latter underwhelmed last season, while Fletcher has a good goalscoring record in a struggling team. I saw some stats last season about the most clinical finishers in the division - the ones who converted the most clear goalscoring chances - Clint had a very high ratio on that, as did Fletcher. Whatever else he does or doesn't bring to a team, he's a goalscorer. I agree that £10m is optimistic from Wolves (and £15m ridiculous), but he's a good striker and that's a position where we're short. I'm less convinced that the underachieving Jarvis would be my choice if we were in the market for a winger, and I'm not at all convinced that a winger is what we should be looking for at the moment, assuming that Frei, Kacaniklic, Ruiz, Duff, and Davies are all going to be around next season, even if Dempsey moves on.
Cappy, I wouldn't be too against Fletcher coming here, after all we do need strikers and he is only mid 20's but if Wolves won't budge on their asking price then you have to ask, Rodallega for nothing or Fletcher for £10m? To me the answer seems pretty obvious. I hope that if we did sign Rodallega Jol would still invest in at least one other striker as he isn't good enough to lead the line, but as an option off the bench I think he would be useful.
Didn't I say in an earlier comment that although I prefer Fletcher the economics of it make Rodallega a better signing? Aren't we saying largely the same thing? I don't understand what you're trying to convince me of here.
