Okay I have been quiet, but getting a bit fed up with this backbiting amongst us.... Terry is a stupid person, not a bad footballer, I hate to admit it but he played well at Euros....but as thick as pig**** I do not believe he is truely racist ("some of his best mates are of afro-caribean origin")...but he will automatically come out with statements like "you are a black c***" in the heat of the moment because HE DOESN'T think/understand it is wrong....but what is wrong!! Anton was winding him up...he reacted...it was what Anton (and us in the crowd) wanted...he reacted in a stupid, mindless way... In past times it was like calling someone a bastard,......those of us confident in our parenthood ignore this...but in past times this was as big a slur and would provoke a similar reaction amongst people unsure of their parenthood This could have been handled in a much more dignified manner, without dragging it through the courts. The FA/his club could have imposed a sanction of re-education on him.... ANYWAY, this is where you all ganfg up on me........It was the conjoining of the b-word with the c-word that caused the problem. Black is a discriptive word....it is not wrong in the right context. I am really quite disturbed that the problem is not the fact he said he was a Black c-word. Because afterall Anton maybe black but C*** cannot be used to describe him. I think the whole arguement here is skewed Why aren't we reacting to the fact he called him a C***?????
With respect I disagree on the wider societal issue. At a time where economic prosperity is low my view is that racial tensions are at an all time high. Many in their own minds have turned it into a black v white issue, and I'm not talking about QPR or Chelsea fans I mean fans of other clubs and notable figures such as Doreen Lawrence as well as right wing groups who feel that the rights of the white man are non-existent in modern Britain. I wouldn't be surprised if the BNP or someone used Terry's case as a form of propaganda for their own motives. It's worrying how many people I've seen write "What if Anton had called Terry a White ****? Bet this would get thrown out". These are the kind of people that concern me. My cousin is a Liverpool fan and when Suarez was found guilty he wanted Suarez thrown out and said he found it very difficult to support them due to LFC and Suarez's stance on the issue. How would many black Chelsea fans react if Terry is found guilty? Terry is a hugely controversial figure I think it's important not to underplay the impact this may have on the wider society
That's sound thinking. As long as everyone accepts his judgement. COL, I've noticed this with you a couple of times: You log back on without looking back to where you left off and hence miss points/questions directed at you from stuff you raised back then. I've dealt with your wum accusation and asked a question of you but you've not bothered to look.
Well, time will tell, but the BNP have been around a while and I'm not aware they have a great deal more support now than they did ten or fifteen years ago. Difficult financial times can push people to take extreme views, but the only unrest we've had recently were the riots last summer and they weren't racial. If Terry is found guilty, I suspect black Chelsea fans will react in the same way that Ashley Cole has. They know Terry isn't a racist, just used what ever stone was on the ground to throw at Anton. I would expect Chelsea to support him too, although they may give him a warning. It's Terry's general reputation that will suffer, particularly if he wants to do stuff with the BBC, Sky etc after he retires from the game.
I am sure i heard on ITV News that the complaint was made by an off duty police officer. Swords I do not understand your hatred of Anton If our club has players you hate why not go and find another team. The thing is I think you say most things just to wind people up.
Interesting slant on it Betty, one that only a "Sister" could have! I like the "Bastard" analogy. I had a mate who was raised without a father and I called him that name once, not realizing the meaning for him, and he punched me square on the jaw. Its true we all take different meanings from stuff depending on our past experiences.
Wasn't it Mr Swords views on Anton Ferdinand that sparked the 'Is Swords a WUM' threads of recent weeks? this whole thread is going over so much old ground and is getting a bit unpleasant. Maybe we should all not comment on Terry/Anton until after the trial.
He does, and he's doing a better job of it on this board than the Norwich one, where he keeps getting owned!
Buy your mate a drink for me! There's an orderly queue on here who'd like to do this...
Of course I don't hate him, I don't even know the bloke. I just think the two of them have acted like a pair of prats. I resent that accusation actually.
Again this is unfair on Swords, He supports QPR, he has shown that on other football/QPR related threads and NO I am sure he doesn't hate Anton (he quite rightly says he doesn't know him)....Anton has been used in this by "powers that be"...Anton never even made the complaint. I do not like the fact that Anton wound him up about his affair with Bridges wife (that is not a particularly nice thing to do!).... Swords is right "the two of them have acted like a pair of prats" YES and TWICE YES This is not a nanny state, it should have been dealt with elsewhere. Now let the law take it's course and let Swords say what is his constitutional right to say.
Anton may not be the sharpest tool in the box but he's fine as is his brother. As for the other scumbag and his scum family fùck the lot of them. Am against waterboarding on principle but in the case of "racist eyes" bring it on to get the truth.
