It became the Silhouette Club in 1979.

I think it was originally 'Prohibition 66' and later became 'Penny Farthing'.

The Gothenburg Coffee Club in Prince Street was a place you didn’t take your wife or girlfriend for that matter; I went a few times in the late 60s usually after 11pm. I wasn’t a member but borrowed a friends membership card the only snag was the name on the card was Brenda the guy on the door a rather large black brick ****house gave me some funny looks but always let me in. You could get some very strong cola instead of coffee

Didn't it have one of those slots in the door which was pulled back, by the said guy?

The old Silhouette was on Spring Bank, the new Silhouette opened in Park Street way later, it was alright, but nothing like the original Silhouette.

As those who watched Twaddles sing New York, New York will testify.

Ray Harvey was in there one night, half-bottle of Bells in his inside pocket...later on, we got word that it had taken six plods to arrest him and get him into the paddy-wagon.

    Some great times.

The front door was always open when I went, there was a hatch on the left as you went in with the doorman behind, but on some nights he would stand at the bottom of the stairs so you had to squeeze past

I think the modern day Justin Bieber audience is much more cultured.

That they may be (choke, unless of course the comment was meant tongue in cheek) but nowhere near the fun we had back in the so called bad old days. Incidentally with it being mainly a live group orientated type of time, groups of various quality I may hasten to add, it was on a more intimate level, many groups would chat for ages after a gig. But now its all corporate, VIP passes and the like, live music, as talked about here, is dead.

Could be the Flamingo Coffee Club down Londesborough Street or Kevin Ballroom, down North Church Side there were two or three fights on most nights

I remember "Twaddles" in Silhouette (Spring Bank), he was a good friend of Joe Longthorne. I'm sure Twaddles worked for the NAAFI in the Falklands, during the war over there.
