Couldn't get a ticket or for the Beatles so never got to see either. But I managed to get front row seats for The Bee Gees later on in fact I think I was the only guy in about the first 5 rows of screaming girls including my girlfriend. In those days the Bee Gees were a 5 piece band but they were, even then a quality act. I think the warm up act were someone called Grapefruit who had just signed to The Beatles Apple label. Bands were also on at Cecil and we saw Herman's Hermits and The Honeycombs, who had a girl drummer, most unusual in those days, and a guy who came out from behind a curtain, Dave Berry.
Didn't see them in Hull but saw them at Brid Spa. Couldn't remember what year it was and had to google it. Came up with 02/05/1964.
My mother worked in the Gainsborough fish restaurant where all the top acts would go to enjoy a meal, she had her photo taken with a lot of the acts including Cliff Richards and the Drifter’s (before they changed to the Shadows) the shop was besieged by girls they had to get some extra police to allow them to leave. And the 60s was about Mods and rockers rather than Teddy boys that was more the 50s

I was 15 at the time and lots of my mates went to the ABC concerts. Did you notice the low billing for The Kinks on the poster for the forthcoming Billy J Kramer concert? I was put off by the prospect of never being able to hear a note though and the nearest I came to seeing anything at the ABC was a brief glimpse of Billy Fury signing autographs at the stage door while I waited for my bus to leave the old bus station - he was very pink!
The Stones played a gig at 'The Gondola' coffee house in Little Queen Street, before they ever came here on a tour (to the ABC). A lass I went out with saw them there.
I was at the Bridlington Spa for the Stones concert in 1964. Though more for the girls than the music. I may have been at the Gondola gig as well, but I could be confusing that one with the Pretty Things. Remembering the sixties was never that easy...
Gondola was great - I went a bit later on though (from about 1966). DJ was a bit of cult figure in Hull at the time and it was "mod central" with Little Queen Street full of scooters.
my family were on holiday in brid that weekend me dad would,nt let me go because he was told there would be lots of "ravers" going!!! how mad is that???
Club 51 - Noted under ‘clubs, social & general’ from 1965 until 1973, but by 1975 it had become the ‘Fifty One-Casino Club’ and was noted as nos.49-51 Spring Bank.
Certainly did - and the Beatles the previous year. Wasn't a great fan of the Stones then but someone couldn't go and I got offered the ticket...
Gainsborough was epic in those days! Fish, chips, mushy peas, two colours of bread and a cup of tea for 2/6d. Also loved their fishcakes.
Would have loved to have seen the Stones in Hull, but i was not born till 64. Recently got the Exile album on vinyl though and it's become my fav Stones LP. Didn't know they ever played Hull !
Yes - but they used to let in the 'baby beats' (R'n'B / Beat group fans) until the (Chinese) gamblers arrived as the restaurants shut..... ....this was in 64/65. I lived above in 67.
