I like Dempsey, he is a very good player that scores goals (something we lack) but he is also 29 years old and approaching the twilight of his career. IMO, we shouldn't be signing players to squeeze the best final bits out of them, we should be signing players that will progress/blossom in the side and possibly command a vastly superior transfer fee when/if we come to sell them than the fee we paid
who knows... chelsea and city will spend big. utd have bought nothing much of proven yet, arsenal are strengthening but losing their star again, tottenhan have everyone but forwards in already it seems.
I'd like Borini. The more I see of him the more I like him. Think the Carroll loan is a bit of a non story. Distorted and taken out of context. Rodger's was just trying to be non-committal. Krasic would be good as long as the deal was separate from anything on Suarez. Granero I'd like, good utility signing. Dempsey I'd take but I'd rather Dembele. Marketing wise Dempsey would make sense.
If we do get Dempsey then surely that blows FSG's policy of a player fitting their "profile" completely out of the water. And if they lie about one thing..................................
We'll make an easy profit on Dempsey purely due to marketing. He's better than Kuyt was, and a decent replacement if he signs.
When there was talk of an exciting signing, you have to question who that statement was aimed at. I guess we have a fair number of fans in the US, and I imagine a fair number of them would be very excited at the though tof one of the best of their own becoming a part of LFC, (Clint Dempsey.) At the same time, Liverpool fans in England see an exciting signing as someone who can perform to the same kind of level as Suarez or Torres on their arrivals. Giving us something that no ones else has got, (and creating jealousy.) Dont think anyone in the top 6 will be bricking it, if our exciting signing is clint. Will just give them more firepower to say we are a club in decline..... Saying all this, he could be just what we need!! Saying that I prefer Maxi!!!
Dempsey, say what you want, played out of his skin last year and has been playing well in the PL for a long time. He'd have easily been our top scorer last season with 17 PL goals. The American link is huge in terms of the LFC brand, which I'd fully support expanding. Why are United so dominant? Marketing = money = players = success. Saying that I'd love a cheeky Aguero or Higuain level signing
The policy isn't ALL players have to be young. If we sign 3 young players and Dempsey then that isn't exactly against their policy. If we have a whole squad of youngsters then who is going to grab the team by the scruff of the neck when Gerrard isn't playing? Dempsey would be valuable not only as a footballer but a leader/role model. He isn't going to break the bank either...an important addition imo. It was the same with Bellers and Mcallister, people were unsure of them before we signed them...but were damn glad we did once they played in the red shirt.
True but the problem is that we already have experienced players like Gerrard, Maxi, Cole, Bellamy, Aquilani (28/29), Downing (27). We need more fresh players like Suarez (21-24) who are keen to impress and provide some much needed dynamism to the team.
Gerrard who is injured more than he plays. Maxi, Cole and Bellamy - would be surprised if all three start the season. Aqua is probably off and is hardly a role model at LFC. Downing. Don't start. He looks scared, plays within himself. Not a leader.
Shelvey has signed a new contract. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/jonjo-s-joy-at-new-contract
Dempsey>Maxi, Cole, Bellamy, Aquilani, Downing. Take Cole and Aquilani out and Downing is no where near good enough. Like I said, if we can get Dempsey and then 3 more players (21-24) it would not be a bad bit of business...depending on cost of course. No more than £12m me thinks.
10 tops for me with Dempsey, mainly due to age not as much ability. We shall see though, pre-season games start in what a week or so? It is getting exciting that is for sure.
