Opium, Rum and Tea made Britain great. And lets face it, none of them will ever go out of fashion. Losing control of these lucrative markets has led to our steady decline, time to reinvest in these sought after commodities, and back the trade up with a few gunships if required.
The world was always a ****ty place. Hence the thriving market for Opium, Rum and Tea, Supply and demand. You put the kettle on while I go and get some smack from the boozer.
I did. Parts of China were under minority foreign rule - both in places by us alone and in other places by other Imperial powers and conglomerates of such (like the people who fought the Boxers). The Boxer Rebellion is history's main lesson in the resources>people class. Parts of China remained under British rule for a long time - Shanghai and Hong Kong until the 20th century. When nations overthrow thier oppressors, the resultant regime is normally a reaction to the foreign rule and, by definition, more extreme in their political outlook. Oppressing regimes rarely became Communist (Russia apart). Mao's thousand mile march and all that other Chinese eulogy was easy to impose on the Chinese people because of the yolk they'd lived under at many hands. Basically, I'm saying that China becoming Communist was partly Britain's fault - same as Cuba becoming Communist was mostly the USA's fault and extremists like Mugabe becoming powerful is as a reaction to the previous rulers they had.
I should get an award for turning a thread about Irish/orange pish into something that's actually more ill-informed and boring than normal
No, it was Russia's fault, and Japan caused it, going by your ****ed up logic. And Portugal's empire on China lasted longer than anyone else's. Anyway, back to 9/11 and the staged lunar landings.
How is it fucked up logic? The Japanese are more to blame/involved in China's history than anyone else. But how does that excuse the other Imperial powers? Quite simply, to have a revolution, you must have something to revolt against. Britain was the last Imperial power to leave China.
Why do these dulards feel the need to march on the streets anyway? because they are proud? I'm proud of being Scottish but I don't feel the need to don a kilt and tam o' shanter and march up and down the country annoying people.
You bark on about being bigots and sectarianism then you speak about King Billy and the possibility that he might have been gay. Even if he was, why would this matter to such a reasonable person like yourself and why feel the need to highlight that or even his height. Then again you find a problem with people handing over a letter of protest to the police. i suppose a more reasonable response would be to drop breezeblocks on their head and petrol bomb them!?!
Because it is their tradition to do so. They have done so for many, many years. Should their traditions and beliefs be stamped out because some people don't like them?
