bennett butterfield fox howson pilks i've put fox in because he's our best ball player. there will be times when he is not best bet and johnson (for the time being) would have to come in. i think hoolahan and surman can be imported for pretty much any of those players too if need be. i wouldn't play two up top very often. i far prefer the flexibility of a 4-3-3/4-5-1
only issue with it is there is a lack of bite. this is why i keep reiterating how important it is to buy a really good holding midfielder, one who can do the same things that fox can but also breaks up the play better. i love foxy but he's a bit lightweight against certain teams. we don't need a bulldozer - just a competent defensive player who can play it simple to our more creative players and shield our centre backs.
I agree a DM is a priority. Although in a midfield of 5 I am slightly less concerned than Fox in a midfield of 4. I more robust DM would give the midfield an excellent balance for sure.
We need a Trevor Hockey (God rest his soul) kind of player - someone who can mix it up, break it up and spread it around ....
wow what a midfield that would be! surely that's our best midfield on paper for 20 years if we could get a DMF in there instead of one of howson/butterfield/fox then job done. obviously we need to keep them injury free and on form all season
Do we see Butterfield and Howson playing together in the middle every game? I would assume that they would be the ones to burst upfield to support the striker. Even though posters seem to think CH may not tinker as much as Lambert, I'm sure he is pragmatic enough to realise you can't just roll out the same team each week in the Prem unless the fixtures enable you to do so. I can see a role for Whittaker playing midfield in the games we need to break up the opposition midfield rather than letting them mark us. ManCity away is a diferent prospect from Stoke at home.
