Ahmed Elmohamady and David Meyler... http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...nderland-pair-elmohamady-and-meyler-1-4723928
I thought the former had pretty much sealed a switch to West Ham? Either way, I'd be very surprised to see the Allams cough up £2m. As for Meyler - that's another centre-mid we've been linked with. It does make me wonder if somebody knows something we don't in terms of departures. As it stands we have more than enough of that position.
I never knew Elmohamady could play right back either, which would be useful. Aye 2m seems a lot for us. If people were balking at 1m for Vito.
If we need to cough up money for a player, SURELY the right position to do it for is a striker??!??! After all 20 goals a season players are like chicken's teeth.
The Egyptian looks like a good prospect and tidy little player but guaranteed if we get him, a section of "fans" will complain it's only because he's Egyptian.
Is Bruce likely to be interested in Elmohamady who he used "increasingly sparingly" whilst at Sunderland?
Pretty big difference between having him as backup for a mid-table Premier League side, and having him for a top-half Championship side.
Two cracking players ! I for one don't want to see Elmohamady leave, he is a good right sided utility player, mid field or full back (plays right full back for his country), but MON has other plans so I don't think he has much of a future at Sunderland. Meyler needs a championship loan until Christmas at least, a good centre midfielder, but needs game time following injury. We will want him back though, he is a well thought of squad player (stand in for Clattermole) I hope this comes off for hull.
But if it's a case of Bruce not rating him enought play him, will that have changed? I just get the feeling that the reporter is putting 2 and 2 together. Elmohamady was signed by Bruce at Sunderland, but then couldn't get much game time under Bruce and MON so he MAY be looking to move on. Plus he's Egyptian like our owners. Meyler has been out for a long time with knee injuries so MON MAY look to loan him out to get fit. Bruce being at a new club he MAY come in for them both. That's all the story says really
You will obviously know more about whether he was used by Bruce or not, but the link to the story says this... " The inconsistent 24-year-old had a disappointing 2011-12 campaign, used increasingly sparingly by Bruce and hardly at all by new boss Martin O’Neill"
Bruce played him 11 times last season, O'Neil played him 10 times(though obviously O'Neil was there for more of the season). Bruce played him 36 times the season before.
Would be great if we could ge these two. I would think it is just paper talk at the minute though and we will be waiting until Sunderland decide on their 25 man squad
Of the Sunderland fans who have commented on their thread regarding the story in the Echo all of them would happily see Elmo leave and would drive him to us themselves. Not a great endorsement. They all are expecting big things from Meyler though
This might be old news for you fellas, but can't find anything about it on this board. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...s-on-ahmed-elmohamady-s-trail-72703-31359930/ The whole text for the lazy geezers. [NSFW]AHMED ELMOHAMADY is a target for ex-Sunderland boss Steve Bruce at Hull City. And Bruce is also considering an approach to take Black Cats midfielder David Meyler to the KC Stadium on loan. New Tigers chief Bruce has already raided his old club to recruit coaches Keith Bertschin and Stephen Clemence. And now he wants to bring Elmohamady and Meyler to Humberside. Elmohamady seems likely to leave Sunderland this summer after being relegated to a bit-part role since Martin OâNeill succeeded Bruce in December. The 24-year-old still has two years left on his contract at Sunderland, but will have to move on if he wants to play regular first-team football. Elmohamady was on West Hamâs wanted list earlier in the summer, but the play-off winners have since cooled their interest. Ideally, Elmohamady wants to stay in the Premier League, but as time wears on and the end of the transfer window approaches, he is expected to soften his stance and drop into the Championship. And a reunion with Bruce â who scouted and signed him for Sunderland in 2010, first on loan and then in a £2m permanent deal â could suit both parties. Hullâs new owner Assem Allam was born in Egypt, and that may also play a part in attracting Elmohamady to the club. Bruce is also keen on Irishman Meyler, who is another who has had limited opportunities under OâNeill. The 23-year-old is determined to succeed at Sunderland now his 18-month knee ligament injury nightmare is finally over. But a loan move would give him the chance to play regular games and prove to OâNeill that he has something to offer.[/NSFW] Another source with the same message pretty much. http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport...-double-raid-on-old-club-sunderland-1-4723977 Do you think there's anything in it?
With Elmohady I guess it's whether he would stand out at a lower level, but it sounds like a big risk if a fee is involved. A loan deal sounds unlikely with Wham! interested though.
