Ah! ok, that could cause a minor headache. I guess it is just weighing up the possibilities with the current squad then.

He strikes me as a winner and someone who will look to achieve it by any means neccesary. Similar to Hess in that respect but hope we are more versatile tactically last season because under Hess it seemed when things needed mixing up, we kept trying to do the same old rubbish.

I get the impression he will be trying to play a aggressive style of play, saying that he wants to sign players with 'steel' doesn't really imply nice football played on the floor.

How many times were people moaning that Hessie didn't have a plan B now we are moaning about a manager that mixes things up. OK he's not everyone choice as manager but he is Scally's so lets get behind the man an maybe just maybe we will get what everyone wants and that is to get out of this division.

hullgills - I did not think anyone was moaning to be honest. Just mainly responding to a question I asked in what style of play will we be.

I didn't criticise Allen, in fact if anything I was complementing his winning attitude. I fully welcome anyone who is versatile and not afraid to mix things up. Personally I don't care how we do it, just that we go up this year. Long ball or Barca ball, either is fine ;)

Literally a day ago I outlined Hoyte as a potential transfer target and now Dagenham are beating us to him? Now we can't say for sure if Allen wanted/wants any players we, as fans. would like, but Prog Seller is right that he is the kind of player we should be signing to help us get up next season!

He was a good player for Barnet, may be good for us, as a back up though, but saying that not every defender is bad that plays for Barnet they may concede a lot but some are good Simon King was, if he does well on trial then give him a contract.
Updated, I thought he was mainly a defender, bit of a mistake, now knowing he is mainly a midfielder I am not sure as he is not the type of midfielder we need, we have central ones, we need players with pace and I am sure Hughes is not fast.

seeing as we've lost out on gavin tomlin to the sathenders, think we should really do our best to try and bring thomas barkhuizen (hereford utd loan last season) 18 y/o striker into the club either on loan or maybe a permanent basis and with martin allen having done some work with ian holloway at blackpool recently...just maybe it's possible to do !

He would be a great player, quite impressive against us, would be good for a season.

Left winger with pace must be a priority and maybe a striker

I think a striker is always a position that a manager can stamp his style of play onto a team with. If Allen does sign one I'd like it to compliment the current strike force of Miller, Birchall and Kedwell because I think when all are fit we could have a similar goal scoring record to last year. I like the sound of a pacey winger as that was a constant complaint of season ticket holders last season on and off the boards (we never really have replaced Jarvis and Barcham) but we must focus on our defence.

Martin looked shaky, Fish only started looking comfortable at the end of the season and with Richards and King leaving (who both had MoM impressive stints at points) we have to fix the leak of goals. I think we need at least two defenders in, preferably ones that can play full back as well as centre half just so we can have decent cover in case of injuries, even if Russell helps improve the situation. I think as soon as that's solved we could really have the makings of a league winning side; at full fitness and form we have the strongest midfielders in this division and we can dominate possession and win matches.

mark hughes is on trial and now officially training with gillingham fc looking for a contract !

do we really need more middle of the park players as well as curtis weston who is training and looking for a deal with us ?!
surely not, especially weston who has had chance after chance...spend the money wisely mr allen and not on curtis weston type players of old.

you watch he'll play well to get a new deal and then we'll see curtis of old again <doh>

Yeah that is what I have said all along, no doubt Weston is a top player but he does not show it anymore and also central midfield is no problem where we have Lee Payne Montrose and Dack so do we need Hughes, central defence is where we need new players and on the wing not central midfield.
