Hammond is a great player. Very tactically aware (will cover a position if a defender goes forward), runs all game, always the first man pressing the ball if we sit too deep or bring everyone back for a set piece, doesn't give the ball away cheaply..etc etc. IMO Morgan-Hammond was the best combo (before signing Davis)
The problem is that FIFA believes it can ride rough shod over the law of a country (a swiss club last season was totally done over for taking its FA to court, even though it probably had the law on it's side, iirc). So they could refuse to sanction the transfer. However, fortunately that brings them into conflict with the one organisation FIFA is scared of, the almighty ECJ (who KNOW they can ride rough shod over the law of a country, or anything else for that matter). FIFA and UEFA got a bloody nose over Bosman, so they are unlikely to want to go in for round two.
If we need a player to slow down the tempo and close a game out, Hammond is a good choice. Not the most technically gifted player, but he is a good organiser and is very tactically aware. Also strong in the tackle. Although he won't be first choice, he will be useful when needed.
I like it. Apparently Fifa are expected to grant temporary registrations while the world governing body rules on the matter. EDIT: Oops, sorry Pepys for posting what I thought was new news. Just noticed Wisecummer with a comment on Fifa, so the subject is already out there. Anyway, yah-boo the New Rangers..! Had it too soft for too long, anyway.
Just to add a little extra...just noticed a facebook status and one of my facebook friends wrote this evening: "Currently got a professional football player for Southampton looking round my house and interested to buy... Apparently he's the new centre midfielder...?" He is not a football fan himself, but his brother is a saints fan who put a picture up of himself and Davis. Apparently his contract is due to start in three weeks and he is looking to move soon. So don't know whether everything is all dandy and Rangers are just being a pain in the arse, or if Davis is unaware of the goings on...
Should be as there is temporary clearance to stay with Saints I believe. Wouldn't worry...this is a money issue and not a question of Davis leaving. Won't even be a large figure.
Nope Rangers are just being a pain in the arse. I'd bet any money Steven Davis is a Southampton player next season.
Alot of people were raving about him on twitter when we signed him, disappointed that their own club hadn't snapped him up. But to be honest, I know little or nothing about him. What is he like? Good fit for us or is he over rated?
And all this from a player who has spent almost his whole career in League 1. Is it just me that thinks Pardew made some amazing signings?
I like him a lot. Here's a quote from a Rangers fan on here - "I'm a Rangers fan and gutted to see Davo go but can't blame him with all the stuff going on at Ibrox. He's a great player and can't believe we managed to hold onto him for so long without a PL club coming in with a big money offer for him. Will create a lot of goals, the only criticism of him is that he doesn't score enough but he should do well" From what I've seen, he's always impressed me, and I've spoken to a (Celtic supporting) friend in Glasgow who rates him very highly as well. And, even if he does turn out to be overhyped, he's a free, so life goes on.
Any agreement with the old Rangers company to sell players for a fee is no longer valid as legally, that entity does not exist, so any arrangements are null and void. However, as to whether there is grounds..... it depends on whether the players are viewed as employees or part of the assets of the now extinct rangers football club. Under employee law, there is zero legal grounds for rangers to block the transfer as employees are free to determine if they wish to transfer contracts of employment. However, it maybe that the the newco are viewing the players as the assets (and it is likely most football clubs would treat players as assets in some form), then they are entitled to stake a claim for the fact that they bought all the assets of rangers and therefore they control the players..... As someone said, this will be a test case and will depend on whether they are deemed to be employees (and subject to employment law) or as assets and therefore subject to accounting, insolvency and capital assets legislation...
From what I have read; legal opinion and legal precedent supports the former Rangers playersâ position. That said, one never knows with FIFA; Blatterâs envy (or is that; hatred?) for the English game may come to influence the decision; that may be politically driven rather than a legal one. Blatter will no doubt, be wondering if he needs to provides some brown envelopes to Newcoâ¦or whether they might provide their own if asked.
I don't know why some people have decided that Pardew was bad for us. He wasn't, I was very disappointed when he left. Thankfully I was championing the Adkins appointment from the off so when I heard his name mentioned I was very excited, though I had no idea he'd bring us this level of success, in two seasons. That said, I don't know why Adkins' success diminishes the good work Pardew put in, in some people's minds.
I think most people value Pardew's contribution. There were initial murmurings because fans were afraid that Cortese may have got it wrong, so tried to place all the blame on AP. He will get a good reception at SMS.
Agree Pardew did a great job. I dont think he's hated at all. When some-one leaves people always take sides and natuirally most of us sided with Nicola and the club.
