R Brendans statement that "We hope to complete a deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club. He will be terrific I'm sure and the supporters will absolutely love him." begs the question...who is the mystery player? Just for a bit of fun...name that player...without using the phrase "time will tell"
Affelay was my first thought would be surprised if BR was claiming Dempsey would excite the fans but I'd have no problems if we did sign him too.
smart money will be on gaston rameirez. internet is alive with it. affelay is not exactly inspiring after the holland debacle so he could be available for us to go for. all in all those two would add the things we look for in the formation we are looking for. dempsey would be a joke and we'd be laughed all the way to 10th with him.... not that he's bad just that it'd prove our club lacks any ambition.
Don't agree about Dempsey tbh. Again I wouldn't want us to break the bank for him (and we wouldn't due to age) but I wonder how many goals he would have got us from midfield last year. Had we got ten goals exactly who would have been laughing then? Did opposition fans laugh when we signed Gary Mac? Did any of us care? I would put Ramirez up there as a candidate but The Echo seemed to be fairly certain that we haven't made the approach that twitter/internet sources would suggest. I felt Affelay looked poor at the Euros but I never base opinions on one tournament good or bad.
thats grand.. one could say the exact same about adam... he could have got 10 but was a complete flop. the thing is there's nobody who can tell me dempsey hasn't been at his absolute peak for 2 years so buying him runs the risk of him giving one year then being dirk. we'll see. IMO we should be looking to now but als 5 years time and dempsey aint that... if we was a last minute deal ala bellamy i'd say ok, he rounds things out but as no 1?
I reckon Gaston Ramirez to be the exciting one with Borini looking to be the second he wants to sign. The second could also be Dempsey ofc, but would much rather someone else.
I didn't say I think Dempsey is the player he means, I think we'd all be gobsmacked if that was the case. Can't really compare him to Adam coz Dempseys been banging in Prem goals (and playing better) than Ch'Adam for ages. I certainly wouldn't have a problem if he was one of three or four new faces though.
agreed he has been... ergo my worry he's been at his prime and will have peaked potentially. I'm not sure rodgers really said its excite us that much.... I'd like to think we'd go do something but we'll see. If dempsey is our aim we've got to think about what we'll be in 3 years.
As much as I hope it is Rameriz or Affelay, I think it will be Borini. It could turn out to be Dempsey but I doubt it I think the comment about exciting fans will prove to be a false dawn, it raises the fans hopes and expectations beyond reality Edit: I wrote this before I saw the BBC article about Borini
I think Borini is the excitin one that we could get in b4 end of week, I think Hoilett is the other one we may get in

Since this Barca team copied us with their brand of footy and now that we are going back to it we should just buy them all, they get to come to a better club and we win everything, Easy when you think about it.
