Its really only the English players who are inflated, and they are mostly rubbish. There are hundreds of young foreign players out there better than those two who would be cheaper.

Morisons value is not 4-5 million, I'd be amazed if a Premiership team would be interested and they are the only ones who would pay that kind of money.

And you guarantee we would have to spend 12,000,000 to get two better players. Don't talk rot, you know as well as I do that comment is totally unfounded.

I'd guess we are on a similar financial level to Swansea and WBA. Saints, WH and Reading are above us as you say Rob, but then we are a year ahead of them. We are all about sustainability and clearing out the old debt.

Only the signings saints have made have impressed me personally; i'm indifferent about reading and Wet Sham's additions

so take your £45m, deduct £7m in loan payments, deduct £22m in wages, deduct £12m in transfer fees and £2m in agent fees and you realise we are not well off as it stands. ok, that's very rough and there are loads of factors involved but it shows how quickly the premier league cash is spent and illustrates perfectly why clubs get in so much trouble when they get relegated!

    more crap <doh>

you seem to have little understanding of how difficult it is to find strikers who score goals at the top level. i wish it was as easy as you make out.

Yes, but you have to (a) find them and (b) take a risk. Newcastle found Papiss Cisse, yes. They took a big risk though- £10m or more. For every Cisse there's also a Brian Ruiz- Fulham spent £11m on him. Those are risks we simply can't afford at the moment. Don't forget, we toyed with administration only a couple of years ago. As I have said numerous times, come back in three or four years, with plenty of cash in our coffers and I would agree with you. I think you are getting too far ahead here- let's be realistic. So, in fact, they are expensive.

Yes it is. Check transfermarkt- his value as an asset is around £2.6m. That means if we really didn't want to sell, we could expect £6-7m for him. No-one would pay that, but in the last year of his contract we could easily get double for him. That's how transfer values are calculated- using professional programs. Just because you don't like his style of play and you wouldn't pay that amount for him, doesn't alter the fact that is his worth. I think you need to be a bit more objective about these things. Don't get me wrong, I also would love to see us play amazing football, but these things take time and are risky- we can't make wholesale changes to our play without dabbling with destruction.

That's not what I said. You are twisting my words. I said we would need to spend £12m to guarantee better players. Even then I don't think it would be guaranteed actually. The problem is that you are misinterpreting the value of a player with their effectiveness on the pitch. These two things don't match up. We could easily have spent £22m on Papiss Cisse and Bryan Ruiz and we wouldn't have a better strike force. These are big risks you are proposing. Risks that should not be taken.

I also think that there is a warped definition of "better" going on. I appreciate that you want technically proficient players, but technically proficient does not mean effective. At the moment, what we need is effective players to cement our position in the league. Given time, then we can take a risk.

As I said, with all due respect you are expecting us to get ahead of ourselves. These are risks that clubs like Rangers took.

yes but we got 90 million when we came up we did not use all that it hasn't just disappeared. mcnally and co know what there doing. we also get alot of money from advertising and sponsors also all the people that have season tickets and people that come to game. also away fans and the catering inside the ground as well so there is alot to think about. i just hope they paint those seats in the geoffrey watling city stand i sit in jarrold the seats over there look pink not green or yellow.

we did NOT get £90m for getting promoted! that is such a misleading figure - i wish they wouldn't use it. it is the basic amount that is guaranteed to any club promoted. this includes all four years worth of parachute payments (which we don't want) and is completely irrelevant to our situation. the figure that matters is the £45m and i've already shown how that can be frittered away with ease. so unless you want us to spend all our parachute money before we need it (if we do need it, i'm sure we will eventually) then you are wildly off course with your figures

yep, i think it was foulger who said our turnover would be around £70m for the forthcoming season. this will probably be £40-45m in TV money, the balance being ticket sales, catering and other third party income.

without a sugar daddy that will easily get spent - we are not rolling in it!

£90m is what you get for promotion TV money if you finish bottom - something like £37m for that season and then £12m p.a for 4 years thereafter for parachute payments. EDIT - supers has just stated this, sorry for the repetition.

well we find out soon if more signings or people moveing out as its first training day today and hughton said he need to look at them in training. today is training day so you might find out some other things happening very soon this week. they might want to get some sorted before they go to Austria at the end of the week and some after or during it.

...they are the three most likely as i see it. none of them seem up to premier standards, but still too good for portaloo road.

Two thoughts. One is goals. I fully expect Pilkington to kick on from a great first season (apart from one blip when he was linked with a move to Liverpool) and reach double figures next season. I also agree that Jackson, with a season's experience behind him, will figure more next season.
Going back to the thread I think that Barnett will go and would not be surprised if Rudd goes out on loan with Steer on the bench - maybe bringing Rudd back and sending Steer out in January

Pretty much how I feel re the players we have left - I can also see E Bennett getting on the score sheet more often. I'm sure one of our keepers must go out on loan with an immediate recall clause in case of injury or suspension.
