I don't find that Bernard Manning joke racist so I suppose it all depends how you define things personally. That to me is just a comedian using a hot topic and playing on its sensitivities to get a laugh. Racism is something far more sinister to me.

Chubby Brown is an annoying twat. And, no, I don't watch his crappy act as I don't have to, unless I'm in Manchester with manc mates who seem to find him hilarious.

We disagree about our defintions then. I can't easilly think of a more racist joke than one that says: "People of a different race can never be English or one of us. They will always be as different from us as a horse is from a dog. No matter how many generations they live here, they will always be alien."

I just wouldn't interpret it that way but there you go. That is not what racism is to me. I think the words racism and racist have been converted by the modern PC brigade into very broad all encompassing terms which in my opinion hinder our progress in the fight against what I see as real racism and racist behaviour.

Not having a go and I'm not going to pick a fight.

What do you regard as racism and racist behaviour ?

I don't want to derail a thread about Chubby Brown with a racism debate.

There is not really a short answer to that because despite I might find the modern way of describing racism/racist behaviour far too broad and trying to catch all, there are still a lot of different forms of racism and racist behaviour. I'd be on all day basically! Happy to give one example though, a true story to boot. Two people go for the same job, one is asian, one is white. The interviewer (who is black) gives the job to the less qualified white person because they don't like asian people and believe them to be untrustworthy.

I'm not sure a debate into the definition of racism really is a derailing of a Chubby Brown thread. What you think it is and how excited we should get about it is pretty close to the heart of the issue.

On the other hand, you do have a point that it might be a bit much to ask you to define the subject.

The example you give is racism by anyone's definition.

In my experience it'll almost certainly derail from the subject matter. Very emotive subject and therefore always draws a lot of comments on forums etc. Before you know it there are 10-15 pages with every twopeneth thrown in, PC brigade and all. Poor old Chubby and ACS's question about him would be long forgotten in no time!
