Right well i have not been on as much as i would like to have been recently but i return to find some worrying posts about possible administration seeming to stem from CL. Now can anyone tell me how in the name of Jesper Blomqvist that could possibly hold any truth? We got taken over and seem to have reasonable resources backing us, we made a few signings last year as you may have noticed that would have cost a bit, and have just won the league and signed the best sponsorship package in The Championship (according to the club anyway) When the board came in with a 5 year plan, i'm sure even they did not think it would have gone this well this quickly, so how can we be in a worse position? Sorry if this has all already been covered but these rumours have annoyed me a bit to say the least.
As a simple season ticket holder, who goes to the Valley & the odd away match & who knows no one, "in the know" Personally I don't think you have missed anything. There may....or may not be some board room movement. But until we get some concrete news I see no reason to worry. From my experience of life, most people who say they have heard from a good source, really mean, a bloke down the pub, told his friends, dog walkers cousins brother something he heard from the cleaners mums sisters boyfriends mate..down the pub. To summarise, we can all make stories up to big ourselves up. Worry is if CL sling enough mud, some will believe it as fact. Will we get the apology every true Charlton fan deserve if, as I hope this pub gossip comes to nothing. By the way I was in Leicester at the weekend & a bloke down the pub, told his friends, dog walkers cousins brother that Charlton were being taken over by a multi billionaire who was going to give CP £50 billion to spend. No I don't believe it either, but that seems to be the basis of CL. "news". Facts from names sources is what I want.
I have looked at some of the other posts on the subject and cant see how it could be anything other than toilet. It was said by Everitt at the Valley Volunteers day before the Hartlepool game we had signed the best paid sponsorship deal in the Championship, and it seems weve been bidding reasonable money on a few players and we have already put a fair bit of cash into the youth team and got JJ to sign a contract extension. All in all i cant see how any of that would be doable if we were in any trouble, the board said all along we were now fine and had a 5 year plan for the Prem and so far it has gone better than expected, unless weve spent 5 years worth of money in a season which we clearly have not. This needs to be taken with not just a pinch of salt, but enough salt to grit the roads if it snows again methinks.
Kevin Cash's representative quit the board on June 22nd, this is publically available information you will find on the official CAFC site, Companies House etc, that same day Peter Varney also quit to try and find new investment, a well respected club employee whose job involves liasing with supporters groups, and who would not comment (putting his job on the line) unless things were serious, announced on Saturday evening that unless a new investor is found we will most likely lose the manager, several of the squad and be relegated, how can you be so delusional as to not consider in the light of this that maybe there actually is a problem, it's a waste of time even discussing it with the people on here, you have made the choice to go Vichy, you are the ones that will have to live with the repurcusions of that choice, I have bent over backwards to try and help you, not like that I'm not gay lol, but you sandwich polishers (no offence) just won't be told.
"you are the ones that will have to live with the repurcusions of that choice, I have bent over backwards to try and help you, " This seals it, sums you up perfectly. From the first word gargled out, to these ones here, thats pretty much what you offer up every day. To think, that in your head you actually think the positive fans here are making a 'choice' and that anything you have said actually is 'help'. At worst, you'll entertain me until the first ball hits the deck this season. You could be described as a sedative in human form
"a well respected club employee whose job involves liaising with supporters groups, and who would not comment (putting his job on the line) unless things were serious, announced on Saturday evening that unless a new investor is found we will most likely lose the manager, several of the squad and be relegated" Prey tell me Charltonnutnut, the name of this well respected club employee. I respect all workers, including the lavatory cleaners, but that does not mean what they say is true. I assume the signing of Cook today, actually confirmed on the CAFC web site, as a posed to your unnamed mate down the pub is just a front to cover for the Armageddon that some so called fans seem to be looking forward to. Its sad that during the closed season, some fans look for bad news & if they can't find it appear to make it up. As I said previously, your apology when we are still here at the start of the season will be welcomed.
Oz Sedative in human form is being way to generous. Diuretic is probably better since they are taking the piss. I'm afraid I have fled the country. By the way, if we were in financial trouble the directors would be in breach of their financial duty by increasing the liabilities of the club by signing new players like Wilson and Cook without a realistic beleif that the club was in a safe position. Slater may be be a lot of things to the diuretic members but I am certain he knows that part of the Companies Act well enough.
The employee is Rick Everitt. I know he has chatted **** in the past so take everything he says with a pinch of salt. Others think he is a 100% trustworthy source. Just be prepared to hear the word ''fact'' a lot.
The two board directors to leave, have done so due to a boardroom reshuffle that was always going to happen according to the OS, Varneys departure was just earlier than expected. In his stead we have the old director from umbro Martin Prothero, someone who I have heard no bad about. The other board member to leave was alex newall. Someone no-one seems to know anything about other than speculation and assumption. Charltonnutnut says he was the backers eyes and ears in the board, and his leaving was a result of the backer pulling out. This is based on his sources, and from re-reading old posts (go to his first post on the Alex Newall thread) i feel he may have convinced himself that the backers have pulled out. His concern for the club however does him credit. In short I think the verifiable facts that you can get from open club sources (i.e. the OS) is that: 1) Alex Newall and Peter Varney have left or are leaving the board of directors 2) Martin Prothero has joined 3) We signed 1 player, in Cook, and it appears that we may have the 2nd in Wilson Everything else depends on whether you trust the sources of the poster or not, which is obviously your perogative. However I again say whether you agree with the view that seems there is trouble brewing or that there is only trouble if we make it for ourselves, at least be civil with one another. Everyone here wants Charlton to do well, and I am sure that when SCP gets us off to a good start with a 5-0 trouncing of birmingham we will all be happy
