A rare Daily Thread starter from me but I've had a look at the mile handicap at Ripon tomorrow and I'm intrigued.

Timeform ratings Ripon.jpg

Timeform view Ripon2.jpg

As can be seen Timeform make a point that DD is held by AM.

On Saturday's running, yes, by about 12l; but AM just failed to get up that day, indicating that he may have had a hard race, whereas DD, ridden by Seb Sanders was struggling under pressure 2 out and weakened over 1 out. On 28th June DD, under P J McDonald, finished 13l behind Memory Cloth (5th and 3rd respectively) with AM 24l further back. On 8th June, under James Sullivan, DD was only 2½l behind Pintura and on 11th May only 2l behind Pintura when fav. Now I may be wrong but I would have thought Pintura would win this race tomorrow if running.

The last time P J McDonald rode DD before then was on 28th April when 5th to Memory Cloth (K Fallon) beaten only 8l giving away 6lb and not getting a clear run 2 out. Again I would have thought Memory Cloth would beat this lot.

All in all it would seem to me that DD with P J McDonald aboard has better form than AM so I tend to be at odds with Timeform.

The forecast fav Satanic Beat and second fav Sam Sharp* seem to perform better on a sounder surface.

DD has shown best form on soft and AM has shown best form on heavy. With DD being twice the odds of AM I'm thinking it's worth opposing Timeform and taking DD as a decent ew bet at 6/1 if the going is soft as forecast.

* Edit
Having read Stick's comments a double check reveals that Sam Sharp does have a decent piece of form on heavy - I missed that one

The two Ruth Carr runners have met three times and their performances and ratings are testament that there is nothing to choose between them, Strange to me that she runs them against each other so often.
For me the standout piece of form belongs to SAM SHARP who was 5th to Fennell Bay (RV tip) at Sandown on his last run. Fennell Bay then went and won the King George V stakes handicap at Royal Ascot. Thats a serious form boost. He also has a sound piece of form when narrowly beaten by Weapon Of Choice at Sandown. An interesting run on heavy. His only win was off a mark of 82 and I think his present mark of 84 is very manageable. he would be my choice.

In fact Fennell Bay may have been RV's last winner <whistle>

I see what you mean Stick. Have added a bit to the OP. Has shown good form on heavy.

I think I'll leave the race alone. Cheers.

Head Space going tomorrow. I'm sure I had that to win the other day and it didn't run. Will have a look at that one.

Evening folks

I'll be having a wee bash on these two tomorrow.

6.10 Windsor SILENZIO 8/1

7lb lower than his last win at Goodwood over 6f, and yee can forget his last run as he hates it like concrete.

9.20 Ripon TRIPLE EIGHT 8/1

This wee fella has a career low mark of 66 to run off. Was as high as 98 at one point and the trainer had two winners on Sunday from two runners.

Good Morrow hope all is well in the land of dreams

todays bets

Windsor

6:40-Dominate-E/W 13/2

A half-brother to several winners including the fairly smart Edge Closer. His Dam Blue Goddess won all 3 starts at 2.Hughes chooses his stablemate over this fella but Ryan Moore isn't a bad 2nd choice and should givve us a decent price.

7:10-Viscount Vert-2/1

Has improved no end this year since being fitted with a hood taking a 1m race at Chepstow and over C+D The last day looking to score with a bit in hand too.Can go in again here off in real terms just 4LB Higher.

7:40-Divea-E/W-8/1

By the Brilliant Dylan Thomas out of Cumin who herself won over 7f as a juvenile.Yard is in form including when a couple of 3 yr old maiden winners at Doncaster on Friday. Can go very close on debut.

Morning, people. Hope everyone is well. It was great to see Cavalryman gain another success this term on Saturday and he must now enter calculations for races such as the old Goodwood and Doncaster Cups. My regular readers will know that I rarely back Godolphin runners (due to there inconsistencies and them often being offered at poor odds) but I’m now in the unusual position that one of my current faves is housed in their barn!

Anyway, enough waffling about the old weekend here’s one across the county line this evening for the old regular readers to follow:

All Time (7.40 Royal Windsor) – I tipped this one up on her seasonal return but ultimately she failed to deliver but wasn’t, by any means, disgraced in finishing a close 4th at Goodwood. Sir Henry’s filly is wonderfully bred being a full sister to both Father Time and Passage of Time and a half-sister to Timepiece. The fact that they have preserved with All Time, this season, rather than pack her off to the old breeding shed indicates that she has more than enough ability to win a maiden like this and I take her to oblige this evening.

Good luck, all

For the first time ever I have just been on, and posted on, other boards on Not6-0-6 (both the Liverpool & Tottingham ones) and must say that if anyone ever complains again about the moderation on the horse racing board then they really want to look at how they do it on the other boards! Disgraceful with a capital ‘D’! On the former I asked a simple question and the thread was closed in a matter of minutes! The famous Scouse wit is, I fear, nothing but a myth! At least for now the Tottingham post still lives at any rate...

Barney, it is hard work at times trying to have a decent conversation with the football fans.
