Almost half way through the season now and I'm getting a little bored seeing the top drivers in the world being hamstrung by this seasons tires. We have seen some great drives brought to a premature end by excessive and unpredictable tire wear. Even Hamilton’s charge for the win in Canada felt somewhat artificial. If we measure the success of a season by the number of overtakes then I'm sure this season will be a stand out one, but if we measure it by the quality of the racing I doubt it would feature in the top 10.

I like the idea that a team along with its driver develops a car; to then be forced in to putting schizophrenic, temperamental tires on it seems to defy logic. Furthermore it isn't a particularly good advert for Pirelli. Okay, most hardcore fans know there is a massive difference between consumer tires and race tires, but Jonny hatchback probably doesn’t.

I really hope they change this for next season as I want to seem teams and drivers winning races and not tire compounds.

    Good point.
People are awakening to the issues in F1 at the moment, so much talent goes to waste in order to focus the car and driving styles of drivers around the tyres.
I don't know who has pace and who doesn't, all I know is Alonso is a boss. I hope it changes in 2013.

What we saw at Silverstone was two drivers on alternative tyre strategies battling for the win and finishing within seconds of each other.

    How is that not good?

Would you rather they were on exactly the same strategies and just run around in cricles after each other with no hope of overtaking at all?

Memories are clearly fading of how dull F1 used to be when races were processional and no one had a hope of passing anyone.

Webber finished 3s ahead of Alonso, that's a pretty impressive gap pulled out over 3 laps and I wouldn't say it was just a few seconds. We had plenty of great racing last year without having to introduce tires which have unpredictable performance

This season has been great IMO, the only downside being how ****e Button has been since Race 3.

Many things decide who wins races, I don't see the problem with tyres being one of the deciding factors.

One look at the championship tables tells you that the best teams and drivers are winning.

The tyres last year had a huge impact too and would drop off a cliff. 3s after nearly 2 hours of racing is pretty close! If 3 is not a few seconds, then what is!?

The racing this year is close and good and relies on teams working out strategies. That there are so many stratefies out there is good for racing as it does mix up the field a lot, but ultimately it's still Red BUll, Ferrari & Mclaren who generally come out on top, but at least (except Massa) each driver is getting their share of the spoils.

What do people want out of F1? When teh best driver/team/FIA/tyre combination dominated in the 00's, everyone was saying F1 is boring. Now we have racing and unpredicatability, people are saying it's no good either!!

has to be better than one driver being given extra special tyres for years so only he could win titles.

But he is still stepping on Quali/Race podiums when he is significantly older than his prime years?

Fair enough, I suppose we're all allowed our opinions. I just feel that an immeasurable variable, as most teams seem to refer to this years tires as, is a variable too far.
