The trial of John Terry starts today only six months late after Chelsea and Terry managed to get it postponed hoping that "all the fuss will have died down by July". Whatever your feelings about what may, or may not, have happened and the context in which things were said, it is sad that the justice system can be manipulated to accommodate a high profile person and his employer. Now the day has finally arrived I just hope that it can all be sorted - one way or another - very quickly and we can get on with what has to be the most exciting time in our club's history. I will be glued to my screen today. Not to read/hear what is going on in court but to find out what the Big Announcement is.
Right back in February I attempted to write a little comic piece about Chelsea sticking a spanner into the wheels of justice: http://thisismyengland.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/carry-on-at-your-convenience.html
It's certainly a big day Eamon. With the flood of QPR related news - stadium, players, trials, Barton - hitting us on a daily basis, I fear the come down when we have a few 'quiet' days between now and the start of the season. Adrenalin is highly addictive. However, we can always rely on journalists and a few of our fellow posters to make some stuff up if it becomes too boring. Is the Terry thing meant to be quick, given its only a magistrates court, or is it likely to drag on with loads of witnesses etc? One thing is guaranteed - the cost of the hearing will massively exceed any fine levied if he is found guilty. Biggest thing for me today is that season ticket sales open for members at 10.00 a.m. I hope to be first in the queue.
As it is in a Magistrate's Court and scheduled to last five days, it is possible that after the prosecution has presented it's case the Magistrate could throw the case out if he/she doesn't believe there's a case to answer. The maximum penalty is a £2,500 fine. What are the chances of a conviction? Virtually nil, the defence will go over the top to call 'expert' witnesses etc and there is not much chance of a verdict being 'beyond reasonable doubt'. All-in-all this is a massive waste of time and money...
I'm not so sure this is going to turn out well for Terry. The prosecution is using a lip reading expert to prove the case, Terry's lawyers tried to have this dropped as evidence but the judge said that it could be used. That sounds pretty damaging to me if they really didn't want this person used. It might only be £2,500 fine, which is puzzling as that kid who racially abused Muamba on Twitter was sent straight to jail within days, but if he is found guilty then that will guarantee he will at least, never play for England again. Shame that Chelsea will continue to protect the racist thug.
Thing is - Terry won't even be there. Find him guilty, fine him the maximum two-hours wages, consign him to the International scrapheap,. and let's all move on.
Terry's already admitted to using the words "F*cking Black C*nt!" He claims he meant it in a different context. Lip reading experts won't tell us any more than we already know. I think Terry will be found guilty. He has no evidence on his side apart from his own word. If he's going ahead with this bad character malarkay then he's just plain daft. Terry looks like he's in trouble.
Terry will get a £2,500 fine and probably be suspended after for a couple of games. Should never have gone to the Euros and the trial should never have been allowed this delay. No justice.
It's worth mentioning again, as it hasn't yet been brought up on this thread, that when we talk about 'the prosecution', this does NOT mean Anton, and it does NOT mean QPR. It may mean the original complainant, it most definately means the CPS, but it's not anything to do with our club or our players.
Rumours are Terry is going to run over to Antons side and celebrate with him if hes convicted! Terry is guilty, thats not even debatable but he will be found innocent. Then the FA wont charge him with anything even though the evidence required is much lower for them.
We all thought Derry would be vindicated and his ban lifted after the Ashley "Penalty Miss" Young business. Anything can happen and probably will.
Exactly, the morons on here will say hes innocent yet is there a single person on here who though young didnt dive?
If he is convicted, I vote his punishment is to sit next to Posh Spice for a day. He'll be a reformed man.
Update - John Terry's defence - Anton made a thrusting fist gesture at Terry and goaded him about his affair with Wayne Bridge's girlfriend Words used - **** off - **** off ****ing black ****. Lip readers have confirmed this But Terry is alleging that he was merely repeating these words which he claims Anton made first!
i dont give a ****, he will just go against everyone elses opinion just to troll. So Terry is saying anton called him a FBC?
