So I hear a big trial is kicking off today about racism in football. I suppose John Terry is going to make an appearance trying to take the credit for that too.

Terry trial underway. Crown alleges Terry said to Ferdinand: ''F*** off, f*** off, f****** black c***, f****** nobhead' on 23 Oct 2011

He'll have a top lawyer who'll get him off. That's justice these days

He has admitted saying the words, can't see how he can get out of it.

This. If he get's found guilty he should also be serving a Suarez-esque ban at least. Love our justice system.

If you see the BBC website, they make it appear as though he is already guilty with their headline, so Terry could sue them and probably get ten times the money he can get fined for being racist... Crazy!

His defence is that he was being sarcastic!

I thought he claimed to say Blind not Black.

There seems to be no conclusive evidence either way on this at the moment so I would be surprised if he is found guilty.

Don't know the ins and outs of it but I assume he is not guilty. Otherwise Ashley Cole and Mikel would have had something to say given they were both in earshot. Its not even clear what his defence is. I've heard two different versions, one saying blind ****, the other saying he said those words but was simply repeating back an accusation Ferdinand made. I think it is hilarious this is in court to be honest. One man abuses another, the other abuses him back. Obviously the bone of contention is what form did the 2nd lot of abuse take. Did it really need a court of law to sort it out?

Racist language is now a criminal offence, so unless you are saying that footballers are above the law, then it is a matter for the courts..

Not at all but my point is this is a complete waste of taxpayers money. There were more than enough witnesses who know the exact context of what was said. Why are we wasting good money on very minor incidents which have the witnesses required to put it to bed?

Messrs Ashley Cole and Mikel are going to look pretty bad if he is found guilty. They'd be basically guilty of condoning racism which given their own ethnic background is mindboggling.

Dunno Pouch. I would rip into a mate if they were being racist, but not everyone is so inclined. The Crown must have a case otherwise they wouldn't proceed, but it's a waste of taxpayers money because £2,500 pounds as a maximum fine if he is guilty is a joke. I see your point, but I side with the Mackems at the moment. Might be just because I hate Terry though...

I have to disagree with you on this...Turning a blind eye is not the answer, and if it is a criminal offence for the fans, then it should be exactly the same for players.

I don't think I've suggested anywhere to turn a blind eye! I've suggested that the football authoritites should have shown a bit of balls, called everyone with knowledge of the incident to a hearing and forced them to reveal what's gone on. Fair enough it would need to go to court if the truth still doesn't come out but a lot of time and money could have saved by the likes of Cole and Mikel from what I can see.

Its an absolute nonsense for me and we seem to have some very weak willed footballers. I suppose the problem is that it has gone criminal because a member of the public has complained. But if they'd sorted it out and he was proven guilty, then he could still have been charged.

Can it be found as "not proven"?

That would be convenient for the court - and probable.

Whatever the outcome the size of the penalty is laughable. Just like the Euoro's - throw banana's and grunt at black guys and get fined £30,000. Show a sponsor's name? They throw the book.

    Pathetic.

Being blessed with not the greatest hearing, when Im talking to prople I tend to lip read ,,,,always. makes it easier for me not to keep saying "pardon" every sentence . Now having watched the incident over and over, my impression was that the word was not "BLIND" but the very word he is accused of. but then again Im not an expert, nor a witness. But no doubt there will be those sort of expert witnesses in court.
