My wife is Polish and has been in the country for 10 years, even before the poles were in the euro.

She had a visa which she had to jump through hoops to get and has a MA in Psychology. Her English is so good that people think she is either from here or America strangely enough?!

She works in a rehab center for women with drug and alcohol problems as a counsellor and earns a VERY good wage and has paid lots of income tax over the years. We have 2 kids together, both born in England and she failed this test and we are having to pay again for it. It's a bloody joke.

BSc Mathematics and Marketing... might be equally appropriate because my club is both better with money and more popular than yours!

I'm sure theres a human rights appeal if anyone fails the test anyway. Just another daft piece of paperwork clogging the already clogged system.

Oh by the way, I'm feeling rather smug as I got 14 Out of 15.

Admitedly I had an educated guess on a couple of questions and failed to get the percentage of people who died from the Black Death but I now realise that I am likely to be sitting in the corner friendless as everybody hates me!!!

I still think it's a silly test though.

11/15 so I guess I can keep my passport! One for you Wellyblue from the same test: when did British women get the right to divorce their husband?

I didn't know the answer to that one, but would have hazarded a guess at the 1920's (and would have been wrong!)

    11 out of 15
Pretty tough and did not know the Welsh question at all. Was it a quarter for the Black Death?

It was 1858 Wellyblue (believe it or not). In fairness the citizenship test is not just about history. There are sections on education, politics, society and others, which makes it a lot fairer. All the questions are available for studying beforehand and you can re-take it as many times as you need to.

I did History at A Level (Grade B pass), but the course consisted of a general overview of England under the Tudors, and an in-depth study of the English Civil War...didn't help with most of the questions! <laugh>

Surely the Tudors helped with the C of E question?

Yes, but I'd have thought that you didn't need to study history to get that one, it was one of the six that Mrs Welly got right, and she didn't study history... <laugh>

Tragically I didn't know when English Law was imposed on Wales or the proportion that the Black Death got but at least I would keep my passport. Have to hold up my hand to a couple of fairly well educated guesses but happy with the result. I don't see the point of immigrants having to learn British history when so many of our own people would probably fail the test. For me if you contribute and can speak the language, come in, if you are here to scrounge, no thanks regardless about your knowledge of history.

That is disgusting behaviour kemp. If you want to go back far enough then our ancestors were all somewhere else than the British Isles.

The Tories are now changing the law so that if you're from outside Europe you can only come here if you earn a fairly high wage... regardless of whether or not your family is here / you have a British partner. In other words you will soon be able to buy your way into the country!

I was 11 also but I am interested in politics so over half were fairly reasonable if you study British politics.
Stupid test really. I am sure that if I went round one of the notorious housing estates down here I ould be lucky to get eleven from the whole lot put together.

May be true, but the people who get it right are incredibly rich - absolutely fine by me!
