I'd be very surprised if he went for £5m - he's english afterall!

I think the article means £5mil before English player tax. Be about £20mil after tax.
Also, he would want stupid wages.

Got the impression that wages had been a stumbling block in the past.

Well then he can rot on the Chelsea bench. Yeah, if I was a footballer, as with any job, I'd want the absolute maximum wage I could get. But he's still a relative youngster with a lot to prove - all careers require you to start off at the bottom of the food chain and if he wants to play he needs to realise that!

The de Jong thing's gone pear shaped so we might as well.

I can't see how this is right. In the current market they will want way more than £5m for him. Would be a great signing for that price, but don't think it is likely at all. And as others suggest above, I doubt we could afford his wage demands.

Just think of the unrest among the other players if we bent the rules on wages to accommodate him.

Not sure on Sturridge, he has an awful attitude and the Chelsea fans can't wait to get rid of him. Also this Guidetti that everyone keeps raving about looks a complete bell end. His touch looks way too heavy for the fast pace of the Premier League to me. If it's not going to be De Jong, we should go for Toivonen imo.

    Exactly, wouldn't be worth it.

We will always lose out on some deals due to wages, but I'd much prefer to keep it that way. I'd rather have the kind of player we've ben recruiting in the last 2-3 years, than someone who just wants cash, even if not performing or sitting on the bench. The squad we have now all seem to want to play for NUFC. We appear to have a tight squad who get on well. No new player should come in and disrupt that due to breaking the wage structure.

I'll take your word on it as I haven't seen enough of this Guidetti to form an opinion yet. <ok> I'll trust whichever deals we go for as the track record in last few seasons has been excellent. OK, they won't get every deal right, but I sense the days of us conducting real howlers in the transfer maket are over.

I have faith in great faith in Pardew's man management skills, so far the only player attitude he's failed to correct is Ranger.

I'd say match Spurs' bidding upto around £8m and offer £40k max wages. If we miss out on him I won't be too upset but if we can get him for that I think he'd prove a good signing.

AP wouldn't be afraid to drop him until he learned better teamplay and I think he could have him settled in time for when we need him, ACoN (assuming Senegal qualify).

Doubt we'd interest him. He will want to play and is poor when played wide. Only ever really looked the part when played up top but with Cisse/Ba here there is little hope of first team football in the role he wants to play. Needs out of Chelski and needs to go and be the main man somewhere.

Hugely over-rated player. Selfish and lacks awareness. Stay well alone, even for £5m.
