So far in his two stints in charge of our lot Nigel has signed a total of 37 players either permanent or on loan. 25 of that 37 have been contracted players. So who have been the hits and who have been the misses. Some have been that memorable you've forgotten who they were haven't you. In terms of appearances Lloyd Dyer is a hit with 148 more than any other Pearson signing. He is also the only one from Pearsons first season signings still at the club. Wellens was a hit that turned into a miss and Gallagher is a miss with a little bit of hit every 10 games or so. Those 3 are the ones that have stuck around the longest and survived two other managers. So lets hope the current incumbents Drinkwater, Morgan, Marshall, De Laet, James and Vardy have more success than the previous 20 odd.
Dyer, Gallagher and Wellens are hits. Yes they're **** now but I think we got all three for a total of 2m. Not bad business when you consider how many goals/good games we've had from them. Obvious misses are Kermorgant and Mcgivern but apart from them it's difficult to really find many players who really have been ****e. Morgan and Marshall are two astute recent signings. Cleverley and Spearing are the two best loans.
Hits Morrison, Hobbs, Dyer, Tunchev, Berner, Brown, Wellens, Waghorn Misses Neilson, Ajdarevic, Verma, McGivern, Adams, Kermorgant
He probably signed more **** players for us, than he did for you. Considering the financial constraints when he first came in, that's probably no surprise.
James Harper ? Jay Simpson ? Peter Gulasci ? Tijani Belaid ? Nolberto Solano ? Aaron Mc Lean - in terms of money paid ? Rowan Vine ? David Amoo ? Hope Akpan ?
Fergie has made some dud signings aswell, Forlan, Veron, Barthez, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson Every manager does. Its not about how many bad signings you make its about how good your squad is that the manager built
Nigel said he had been watching Jamie Vardy for 4 years He said he is an out and out goalscorer and he works incredibly hard for the team and he will have a big part to play this season
Now personally I wouldn't include Forlan as a miss ... it just didn't work out but the guy played well enough without scoring .. but the system being played didn't really play to his strengths - Fergie was actually reluctant to sell in some ways and continually expressed his admiration for Forlan both as a player and as a professional ... and given what he has done since that's not surprising.. Also think we are being a bit harsh on Kermogant - he missed THAT penalty - OK - get over it ... technically he was the best forward at the club ... next season will be interesting because he will be a fixture in Charlton's team rather than just the bit part player he was here behind Fryatt and Howard - I may have to eat my words but I would not be surprised if he weighs in with a fair few goals for them.
Considering Pearson's best moves in his first spell were often in the loan market, do you think with the money he now has he will do the same? The loan market is usually more useful for managers looking on the cheap, but Sven used it with high earners like Curtis Davies, Kyle Naughton and Yakubu.
Nigel had alot of sucess in the loan window first time around David Stockdale, David Martin, Jack Hobbs, Mark Davies, Tom Cleverley, Mark Bunn, Wayne Brown, Jay Spearing, Martyn Waghorn, James Vaughan all came in and either did very well or did a job for us
The problem with loan signings, unless you get them for a complete season, is they can often disrupt the team building process - Mark Davies being the prime example - was so good for us that he put himself right in the shop window and Bolton pounced - leaving us without what had been one of our key creative influences -having owners like we now how we are in a position to shift the balance more to permanent signings - I hope!
I think there is no doubt Nigel has been a success in the transfer market. A big part of that, as I've always said and I feel is under-appreciated by us, is the influence of his scout Steve Walsh I'd like to point you to an article I came across the other day (from last year but the point still stands) http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...till-pulling-rabbits-out-of-hats-2265688.html This is a guy who spotted Zola, Essien, Drogba and the likes, was highly regarded by Mourinho as well and that is a fascinating insight into his thorough methods. I think Tops money is in safe hands
Yes - who then got injured and was replaced by Jay Spearing ... we were quite lucky with all 3 ... but the point is we need people who are fully committed to us ... for a longer time
Worked along side Andre Villas Boas at Chelsea under Mourinho. That could be useful if we're going to go for Harry Kane on a season loan?
where has this harry kane rumour come from, so far i have only seen people on here saying that they would like him. and why do we want another striker??
