QPR are also planning a new 40-45,000 seater stadium in West London and have hired architects Populous, who designed the new London Olympic Stadium and Silverstone's Wing pit and paddock complex.

That would be more than double the capacity of QPR's current Loftus Road home. Fernandes said those plans were looking good and a preferred site had been identified in the White City area.

"We could have sold 20,000 season tickets easily and I think with the investment in the squad and some of the ambitions that we have, and the catchment area that we are in, I don't envisage that it will be difficult to fill up," he added.

He said Populous would also be helping him with his new Caterham Formula One team headquarters at Leafield in central England as well as the development of QPR's new training ground in Ealing, west London.

Would u not think that the Mittals would have some input in making a new stadium with them being in the steel industry?

Hope they give us a discount on materials anyway. The capacity of the ground seems to have jumped 10,000 to 45,000 in a day.

Queenslander has been to the suncorp which was built by the same guys, I hope he tells us his opinion on it when he wakes up!

This looks like what we might get except with a few thousand more seats.

Have a look at their website ( Flyer posted the link) they seem to have designed nearly every major new stadium over the last few years. Including a few with some big cost overruns, like Wembley. But some beautiful arenas, and not a ****ing pillar in sight.
Ideal would be for us to get a really size restricted site which forces them to design something spectacularly tight and vertical.

Cant wait to see the actual final design....

How long does a modern stadium take to build roughly?

The Emirate took 2 years so it would be 2014 at the earliest, maybe 2015.

Wembley was designed by Sir Norman Foster, and it doesn't really matter who designs it, the only way their costs would go up is if we continuously changed our minds on the design.

Now building the thing, now that's a different matter and down to the building contractors. But hopefully we'll agree a contract which means we aren't responsible for any costs for the increase in any costs.

But at the end of the day, it isn't going to cost us a penny in the long run as it's multi purpose use will mean others end up paying for it.

Good post. It did cross my mind that the maximum capacity quoted would be for when the playing surface has seating on it for concerts etc. Suspect we will discover a few expert construction project managers on here as this progresses. I would like to make it clear now that I am not one of them and anything I say on the subject is from a position of profound ignorance.

The only way i will miss LR is if the new stadium has no atmosphere.

These guys arent stupid, they will get the contractors to agree on a price and have huge penalties if it isnt completed in time for a new season.
