Goldy, i'm a patriot. This does not cause me to harbor dislike - distain towards others. I love my country and i'm very proud to say that. If an Irish person was competing in the knitting championships tomorrow, I would be shouting for them. I know Andy Murray is Scottish and a knob, but he is one of your own. I could never shout against one of my own (with just one exception Roy Keane, because he put his personal needs/wants before his country). Each to our own. I have an affinity towards Britain because half my family lives there, tens of thousands of Irish men fought side by side with you in two world wars and my beloved QPR is obviously an English club. I know it's way too heavy a discussion to be having at 6pm, but that's the person i am, and always will be. Come on Andy Murray. Create new history.
My takes a bit different in view of my Swiss heritage. Born here though and spend a fair bit of time in Scotland. No doubt Fed's a God but it's Murray for me for much the same reason as KentGaz says above. PS - Emmental isn't a cheese, it's a rubber!
This is open to all comers Norway! I'm just voting, this time, in an English way because Murray seems to be one of the bitter type of Scots who are still celebrating Bannockburn! May be I'm being as small minded as he has been. May be I'm not seeing the big picture with regards to encouraging kids in Britain to play tennis. May be figuratively I'll sit on the fence during the match. Should be a good one. I think Federer will be too strong for Grumpy...I mean Andy. Best of luck to both of them anyway.
He hardly attacked England, most of it was exaggerated and blown up by the press. Didn't he just answer a question of ''who will you be supporting in the World Cup'' with ''whoevers playing England'', with a wry smile on his face. Nothing wrong with that at all, all good banter. But some people love a fuss over nothing. Hope Murray wins but Federer in this form will prove too tough.
Being born in Scotland and having Scottish parents, but brought up in London I have to go for Murray. We need a British winner after all these years. However, I have to say he does have a major lack of a personality.
And the biggest irony. of course, will be that if he wins he'll be the BBC Sports Personality of the Year...
drip......drip..........drip..............drip............drip.............drip.............drip.............drip.............drip..............drip etc etc
I can tell from your posts you're your own person, Nutso, and if you get to the World Knitting Championships, all I can say is - enjoy! It is a bit of a heavy conversation to be having, but I find the Murray-type anti English attitude (in his case, relating to football but with some Scots and Welsh it's across the board) quite hard to take. They're entitled to their opinion but don't ask me to cheer them on. I'm sure Andy Murray is cool that he won't have my support...
Fair enough Goldy, hope to meet you in London in Nov and i will tell you all about the interesting subject that is knitting.
Sorry. I can't support Murray. Anyone who tries to get attention by letting his balls fall out of his shorts needs treatment, not adulation.
Couldn't really give a toss either way about this **** sport but all the middle-class bints cooing over that miserable bastard makes me lean ever so slightly towards Federer.
Murray of course! Would be an immense achievement. Aren't some of you being a bit touchy about a flippant answer to a flippant question years ago?
I don't particularly like either. I'm a huge Rafa and Tsonga fan however my hatred for Murray goes beyond the realms of earth. I'll swallow by pride and root for Federer. On Grass Federer should win, favours the more aggressive players rather than the conservative types like Murray that play for unforced errors
