You clearly don't need to buy FM13 if half the game has played out like real life already <ok>

One of the best things about having professional players is that if they start pissing and moaning about something, you just tell them to act professional and they shut up.

Realising the usefulness of playing a centre-back up front.

Started a game in the Spanish third tier with Oviedo and very easily got them promoted at the first try. I arrive in the Segunda to discover that somehow Deportivo have managed to fail to get promoted, and also Bilbao have also somehow managed to get relegated. I was hoping for consecutive promotions, but I'm not sure I stand much of a chance against those two. Also, that grid formation hasn't worked for me at all. Tried it in the cup and lost 3-0 to Murcia. My trusty 4-5-1, on the other hand, has seen me to 3rd in the league.

Gonna go back to my FM10 save with Saints. This was such a great game.

Is a Deep Lying Playmaker defensive or offensive? I want to know if a midfield 2 of a Deep lying Playmaker and an Advanced Playmker would be too lightweight and attacking?

If you have rock solid CBs you'll be fine, otherwise no because you're not gonna be winning the ball back in midfield.

Ok, is there a best midfield pairing? Like an Advanced Playmaker and Ball-winning Midfielder?

Depends on the players you have. I've had for this entire game (up to 2028 so far), CM on defensive, AP on support and it's worked fine.

Thanks. One last thing, if both the CBs were Stoppers, and Fullbacks on attack, would that leave too much space behind the defence? And would a Sweeper Keeper help?

It might do, I've never tried it, and a sweeper keeper would help but you want to make sure the keeper is good enough to pull it off and isn't going to keep getting caught out of position! I can't really speak from experience though, I always have one CB on defend and one on cover with my fullbacks being defensive, so :p

Thanks, I do seem to conceed quite a lot, so I may try to be a bit more conservative in the future.

My fullbacks only ever get one or two assists a season, I use them so conservatively :p Never had a problem with scoring either.

I have a new defensive strategy which seems to be working quite well. I've decided that pressing is stupid - the idea behind it is that you win more possession, but that extra possession is largely pointless. In some areas, it's better you just let your opponent have the ball instead of having your defenders dragged out of position and causing unnecessary fouls. So I play standing off with quite a deep defense, and wait for my opponents to get impatient and shoot from long distance or just give me the ball. Then my keeper is instructed to play the shortest of passes, none of these hopeful punts upfield, and we play it out from the back.

I only use pressing late in a game when I need a goal and my opponents are wasting time. Also, don't use two stoppers. A quick poacher will make them look very silly.

I always bring Pahars back after the first season. His stats are useless, but it's nice to have a club favourite around.
