Today is Stage 5: Rouen - Saint-Quentin - 195km. No big hills, easy terrain for chasing down any breakaway, wide level finish for the sprinters. Will Mark Cavendish be OK after yesterday's crash, as it's the perfect stage for him?
Cav = 5th, same time as Greipel. Wiggins = 18th; David Millar = 19th; Cadel Evans = 26th; Chris Froome = 27th; Fabian Cancellara = 32nd; and Boasson Hagen 62nd.....ALL SAME TIME. Wiggins still 2nd overall, 7 secs behind Cancellara. Sky still first in Team stakes.
Today's 6th Stage is from Epernay to Metz, 203.8km. At around two-thirds of the distance, there's a Cat.4 climb and a Sprint Prime. It should be another sprinters' day - the last for a while, as the Tour heads into hilly terrain.
Peter Sagan won the sprint. Cav not in top five, nor is Boasson Hagen. Cancellara still in Yellow, but not heard/seen where Wiggins is yet.
Bradley Wiggins still 2nd at 7 secs, along with Chavanel. Cadel Evans 6th at 17 secs; Peter Sagan 8th at 19secs!
Today's stage - Stage 7 - has two Cat 3's and 1 Cat 1 climb, so things are about to change: http://www.steephill.tv/2012/tour-de-france/previews-results/stage-07/
Really looking forward to the finishing climb today. Might not be ideal for Wiggins but lets see who's brought their climbing legs...
1st = Chris Froome; 2nd = Cadel Evans; 3rd = Bradley Wiggins. (Dunno the time yet, but Wiggers could be in Yellow!)
They say Wiggins is best on the long constant climbs, but looks like 'they' are wrong. This was a pretty sharp climb and he matched everything Evans had to offer. Froome had that extra punch of a true climber, al la Pantani.
I did expect Wiggins to lose some time on Evans today. He did look very strong. And he has the two time trials to gain time !
Sky proving to have the strongest team. But we wont get a true picture until the real mountain stages. Can't wait!
