Very simple we haven't hosted the olympic competition in that time, and as the qualification is the under21 championship we can't qualify if we don't enter as GB now. The fact that we are in this competition is that the host nation should participate in every event as we don't need to qualify. I don't pretend to know all the answers Mabon, I leave that to you as you appear to have them all.
Wherever the torch goes through , people should be allowed to represent . Why should football be any different than any other sport in the Olympics . If you go by populations , Wales should have 3 or 4 athletes representing Great Britain every Olympics & that's about how many do don't they .
Valley the home nations have resisted getting involved in this since 1972 because of the exact reasoning given by the celtic nations in regards to the london olympics, the english have been put under tremendous pressure by the B.O.C. and the british government since 2005 to put this team together. The celtic nations have refused to even meet with the BOC and government over this.
An example of what happens to home nations professional ball sports when the sports governing body pushes their weight around for Olympic representation............. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ol...ing-Games-after-Wales-reject-full-merger.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18561955
But still there are welsh players and athletes representing our country in TeamGB, the fact that the FAW want nothing to do with it is up to them, but obviously the players want to take part as its their right should they be chosen. Basically it shows that these federations are looking after their own personal agendas first, if they spoke to the people involved it wouldn't have come to players going against their wishes, but as they have their heads up their arses they have been frozen out of it.
http://www.hoopsfix.com/2012/07/british-basketball-will-continue-post-olympics/ This signals the potential death of basketball in Wales. It is not so different from the football situation.
There is some parallels there I agree, but I can't see it happening with the football. It's interesting that it's Scotland and England going forward though, normally they can't agree on anything
When it comes to football , Wales is in a very unique situation regarding pro football , amateur football & representation of a nation . It's a minefield of interpretation .
Scotland will only get the funding from the British Federation if the join hands. Wales standing alone means less funding for Wwelsh basketball but at least a chance for Welsh players to develop and play for their country. If the Welsh basketball team was not in existance, there would be no chance for any of these guys to compete at the next level due to the now monopoly held by the big 2. Now FIBA will not probably recognise Wales as a nation anyhow. Olympic sport/team GB is dangerous for the future of established team sport in the home nations !! Now can anyone point me to this cast iron guarantee from FIFA?
Can you point me to the cast iron guarantee that FIFA wants to merge the home nations ? Thing is you can only say that they might do it, but then they might not do it. TeamGB is there it represents us all as we are British for the most part on here. I am for it
There are others after that says differently Mabon and I have posted them in some threads. At the end of the day we have TeamGB and welsh players are a part of it, your opinion whilst valid to cast means nothing as the reality is here, there is nothing you can do about it except call these players a disgrace. I call them fantastic that they are there representing our country.
I could equally say that about you Mabon, being blinkered by being solely Welsh and not recognising the fact that you are British as well.
